Job Description

Dewberry is currently seeking qualified applicants for the role of Environmental Scientist for our Rancho Cordova, CA office. The ideal candidate will have experience with transportation (Caltrans) and water infrastructure projects, will be familiar with California flora and fauna, and have a strong working knowledge of the Federal and State environmental laws associated with threatened/endangered species and regulatory permitting, while also being experienced with staff development, proposal preparation, and project management.

Responsibilities

Duties may include:

    Conduct and/or oversee field surveys such as focused species surveys, aquatic resources delineations, habitat assessments, and construction monitoring.
  • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of technical reports such as biological resources evaluations, aquatic resources delineations, mitigation plans, and annual monitoring reports.
  • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of biological resources sections of CEQA and NEPA documents.
  • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of regulatory permit application packages.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior staff.
  • Monitor workload and prioritize tasks.
  • Prepare proposals and attend interviews.
  • Interact with clients and manage contracts.
Required Skills & Required Experience

Required Education and Experience:

  • BS or BA in Biology, Natural Resources, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of relevant professional experience, transportation emphasis a bonus.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects with critical timelines.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite (e.g., Word, Teams, Excel, Projects), Adobe Acrobat, ArcGIS Pro.
  • Ability for periodic travel necessary to support field surveys and/or project meetings.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
  • Physically able to perform field work under a variety of conditions, including the ability to work in high temperatures, inclement weather, and steep terrain.
  • Competent in an office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work, and with a combination of office work and field work.

Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record and ability to pass a driving record background check.

The projected range for this position is $102,000-$137,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
