About the Position:

The Veterans Resource Center at Cal State Fullerton supports military-connected students academically, personally, and professionally. We continuously engage with our students to meet them wherever they are and to guide them along their path toward success. We believe that only through unity can we hope to meet the varied needs of our students, which is why our center is and will continue to be an inclusive space for all. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Education Access Coordinator (Student Services Professional IB). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the supervision of the Director of the Veteran Resource Center (VRC), the Education Access Coordinator (EAC) assists with developing, coordinating and maintaining the VRC Ambassador program. This includes assisting the Director and staff with 1) Developing and overseeing the Ambassador Program workshop curriculum and training materials; 2) Collaborating with University Outreach and Extended Education for community college, military base resource fairs, and CSUF campus visits; 3) Supporting pre-admission advisement to prospective Veteran and military-connected student applicants; 4) Navigating the application, appeals, and exceptions process, academic major selection and preparation, pre-enrollment procedures, and transcript evaluations; 5) Serving as the point person with planning and hosting student intake related programs including, but not limited to a) Welcome Dinners; b) Veteran Orientations; c) Campus visits and tours; and 6) serves as the primary point of contact and liaison for the CSUF VRC at local and regional veterans associations and organizations including, but not limited to, the Regions VII, VIII and IX, the Orange County Veteran and Military Families Committee (OCVMFC), and the Los Angeles Veterans Committee (LAVC).

The Education Access Coordinator also assists with hiring, training, and overseeing undergraduate or graduate student assistants that include student veteran ambassadors and peer advisors. Provides academic guidance to all potential and current student veterans as well as other military-connected students regarding requirements for graduation and for certification. Represents and promotes the campus and/or the system at programs for veterans and other military-connected individuals including community college military installations, and local nonprofits, as well as national conferences. Designs workshops, publications, program timelines, and training manuals. Coordinates with local area community college veteran affairs staff, military base education officers, and nonprofit education specialists. Conducts ongoing program assessment and development. Writes monthly and annual reports. Provides referrals and support the School Certifying Officials (SCOs) regarding the advising and certification of federal VA educational benefits. Supports the development, implementation, and management of all current and future VRC programs and services, as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field plus one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Equivalent amounts of job-related, graduate level education may be substituted for the required experience. Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management. Working knowledge of research techniques, interview techniques, and the principles of individual and group behavior. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations. Ability to present clear and concise information orally and in written reports. Ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures and activities and the overall organization. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management in addition to experience with community outreach, stakeholder engagement, and resource collaboration. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations. Ability to present clear and concise information orally and in written reports. Ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures and activities and the overall organization. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Preexisting knowledge, relationships and collaboration with the local and regional veteran community are also highly desirable. Pre-existing relationships to the local, state, and/or national veteran services networking including, but not limited to institutions of higher education (specifically community college VRC's), local military related non-profits, and veteran focused governmental agencies (United States and California Departments of Veterans Affairs).
