The Department of Teacher Education and Foundations (TEF) within the James R. Watson & Judy Rodriguez Watson College of Education at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications from a diverse group of qualied applicants for a tenure track position to begin August, 2023. Candidates must have knowledge, skills and interest in teaching graduate courses in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at California State University's San Bernardino campus. Candidates with teaching (applied/hands-on) and research experience in the following areas are preferred: general teaching methods and classroom management; curriculum design: structure and functions of English; reading, writing, and speaking/listening methods; intercultural education; bilingual education. Candidates must have demonstrated knowledge and skill sucient for teaching both upper-division and graduate courses. Experience in online instruction and distributed learning and prociency in a second language is also highly desirable. Candidates are expected to meet the requirements for excellence in teaching, active scholarly and professional work, and service to the University and community.
Typical Activities
The incumbent is expected to provide innovative and cutting-edge teaching at the master's level and evidence of a strong publication record in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and/or a promising stream of research. It is also expected that the successful candidate will play an active role in maintaining and developing student engagement in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages-related areas, advising, coaching and mentoring students, and serving on department, college, and university-wide committees. We are seeking candidates who have a passion for taking leadership roles in developing new innovative programs, promoting a research environment within the department, and supporting University, COE, and TEF strategic goals, which include student success and partnerships with the community to enhance the social, economic, and cultural conditions of the region and beyond.
The successful candidate is expected to:

• Design and teach teacher education courses at the graduate level that emphasize high impact instructional strategies and current teaching and learning theories
• Participate in committee assignments at the department, college, and university levels
• Supervise student teachers
• Engage in research/publication and/or creative activities
• Advise and mentor graduate students
• Participate in student recruitment to the graduate programs

Qualified candidates must demonstrate active involvement and excellence in teaching and mentoring/supervising a diverse population of students, working collaboratively and productively with faculty, staff and administrators within and across programs, departments, and colleges at the university. Candidates are also expected to be actively engaged with the community (e.g., schools and school districts, county office of education, professional organizations, etc.).
Minimum Qualications
A Ph.D. in TESOL or bilingual education.

• An earned doctorate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages or in bilingual education;
• Demonstrated ability or potential for excellence in teaching, research, and service to the university and to the profession;
• Strong commitment to quality of student learning and program excellence;
• Teaching experience as Instructor of Record in graduate or undergraduate courses; and
• Experience teaching students across a wide diversity of cultures and ages.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with pre and/ or in-service teachers in the areas TESOL and bilingual education

• Demonstrated ability or potential for excellence in teaching, research, and service to the university and to the profession.
• Experience teaching languages in Pk-12 Public School Classrooms with appropriate certification.
• Strong evidence and skills and experience in lesson planning, teaching effectiveness, assessment, curriculum development, and pedagogy.(Note: Applicant must include evaluations of prior teaching experience).
• Knowledge of bilingual education foundations, methods and Dual Immersion programs implementation.
• Research/publications and/or creative activities in language teacher education.
• Knowledge and experience in working with first generation college students.
• Supervision of student teachers during their fieldwork.
• Experience in teaching graduate courses in TESOL and/or bilingual education.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Development of new and innovative courses for graduate programs in language teacher education.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate technology and teach courses online.
• Demonstrated interest and experience in collaborating and building relationships with schools and /school district, and other educational entities.
• Demonstrated ability/potential to secure external funds for research/projects.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with professional colleagues.
• Knowledge of California credentialing regulations, and local, state, and national trends.
• Experience with research design and methodology.
• Experience with program coordination or and / or leadership in an institution (school district, university, county office of education, community).
