Description

Position Overview

The Safety Coordinator will be responsible for promoting employee injury prevention programs; campaigns; initiatives; training plans; safety committees; communications; incident reporting; and investigations. The primary success criteria for the role is a positive safety culture and a ZERO injury mindset across the frontline team. Provides technical safety & health resources, and support, to the operations team.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to work off shifts and weekends as needed.

2-10 years of occupational safety experience in a manufacturing environment (experience may be substituted with 3 years’

experience as a manufacturing machine operator or supervisor)

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills.

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal formats at all levels.

Proficiency using Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

Safety focused certification, OSHA 10 Hour, OSHA 30 Hour

Job Hazard Analysis experience

Experience using automated training systems or Learning Module Systems (LMSs) (i.e., Alchemy, Skillsoft, Sprout, Cornerstone, etc.)

Experience as a trainer in any field.

Job Responsibilities

Works closely with the EH&S Manager to ensure that the following items are being addressed and completed in a timely manner:

  •  Assist in the administration of the safety program (recordkeeping, document control, etc.)
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance with company and government standards.
  • Develop safety training material, conduct classroom and hands-on training of employees that cover topics such as chemical safety, emergency action plans, hearing conservation, personal protective equipment, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, fall protection, incident investigations, hazard analysis, equipment safety.
  • Promotes a continuous improvement culture throughout the organization, to include assisting and supporting incident root cause analysis.
  • Performs, develops, and maintains Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) on a continuous basis.
  • Promotes, coaches, builds awareness for compliance with safety standards, and reports all concerns to employee supervisors and management.
  • Assist with accident and near miss investigations and necessary follow-ups with department leadership teams.
  • Coordinate safety tours for leadership, visitors, and new employees.
  • Responsible for ensuring completion of work orders as they pertain to hazardous condition correction.
  • Assist the VP of Operations, operations managers, and other department heads on training all members of management to make safety a part of their daily work routines.
  • Assist with the provision of plant equipment, safety systems and personal protective equipment required to control the risk of hazards in the work area. (i.e., safety shoe purchasing program support)
  • Input requests for safety work orders as needed.
  • Ensure good housekeeping is being done at all plant production lines and support areas.
  • Ensure compliance with plant safety standards and with applicable regulatory requirements while following the company’s Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • May occasionally act as an on-call safety resource, as needed, during off shifts and weekends.
  • Assist in managing the issuance of permits for hot work, confined space, safe work, crane lifts and line breaks.
  • Assist with state hazardous materials and hazardous waste program compliance as needed. 
  • Develop, maintain, and run consolidated training reports, incident report, trackers, action plan reports, etc.
  • Provides in person or offsite trainings. 
  • Coordinates training workshops between vendors and employees (ie., first aid, CPR etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.
