California Department Public Health is Hiring a Warehouse worker Near Sacramento, CA

Job Description and Duties

The Warehouse Worker works under the supervision of the Staff Services Manager I of the Fleet and Asset Management Unit (FAMU).

  • Loads and unloads trucks, freight cars, or other common carriers and transports material to specified areas either by hand or by use of powered or nonpowered materials handling equipment;
  • assists in the receiving, unpacking, and checking of incoming material against invoices or bills of lading to verify items and quantities received;
  • palletizes, tags, and moves material to designated locations; stocks and restocks shelves, bins, or other storage facilities;
  • pulls, repalletizes, and assists in the preparation of material for local issue or shipment. Oversees the movement of all inventory and surplus at the warehouse;

keeps floors and storage areas clean and orderly; may occasionally operate motor vehicles.

Medical clearance is required for hire.

The attached duty statement indicates whether this position is eligible for telework. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200, and may be required to report to a CDPH office, when needed.

Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate :

  • One year of experience assisting in the receipt, storage, or issue of materials from a centralized stockroom or warehouse.
  • Possession of a valid forklift certification and valid California's driver license prior to being hired.
  • The ability to move at least 25 pounds.
  • The ability to use / operate warehouse equipment (i.e., forklift, pallet jack, hand truck, other transport equipment, dock leveler, trash compactor, etc.)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
