Description
** Experience in a Special Education setting required. **
**Positions are 6 hours a day (30 hours per week) for a 9.5 month school year,
and include benefits.

Candidates who possess a valid and current CA teaching credential,
will be placed at Step 6 of the salary range designated for this classification.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, provide intensive behavioral intervention instruction; monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; perform a variety of clerical and supportive duties related to tutoring and instructional activities.
Examples of Duties

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Provide instruction and guidance to students with Autism and/or other autistic like behaviors; implement projects, practices and strategies to achieve individual Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals; assure activities comply with established policies and procedures. E

Assist with lifting and moving students as needed, pushing students in wheelchairs as necessary; position pupils according to learning activities and render various forms of personal care such as toileting and diapering, dressing, undressing, bathing, grooming and feeding; assure the safe use and operation of wheelchairs, prosthetic devices and other equipment. E
Monitor and report student progress daily regarding behavior and performance; assist students and parents with implementation of IEP training and programs through instruction in a variety of activities; behavioral supports to provide guidance for students in various areas including critical life skills, play skills; pre-academic learning, physical development, social communication and personal hygiene. E
Perform routine first aid including emergency treatment of children experiencing seizures or respiratory problems, orthopedic distress and pulmonary conditions; maintain daily documentation of specialized physical health care services and procedures as assigned. E
Present a variety of instructional materials and learning aides; modify materials, rephrase text and explain instructions and words. E
Perform a variety of clerical and supportive duties related to tutoring and instructional activities including typing, duplicating materials and filing; chart student progress; collect and record data. E
Provide support to students by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits; operate and assist students in the operation of audio-visual, assistive and training equipment. E
Implement assigned sections of pupil behavior management plans which may involve use of approved behavior modification, physical management techniques or other skills or knowledge to establish and maintain appropriate behaviors; supervise and discipline students according to approved policies and procedures. E
Monitor and assist students with special learning needs in drill, practice and study activities; direct students into safe learning activities and functions; maintain an orderly, attractive and positive learning environment. E
Maintain the confidentiality of student records and information according to established guidelines. E
Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures. E
Participate in staff meetings, in-service training programs and parent conferences as assigned; meet with special education staff members regarding programs, services, operations, activities and related information and procedures. E
Operate a variety of audio-visual equipment, electronic teaching machines and office equipment including a typewriter, copier and computer terminal. E
Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Course work in child development related to students with severe disabilities (autism)
•Three years of experience working with young students requiring a specialized learning environment.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid certifications of First Aid, Adult/Child CPR and AED must be obtained within the first six months of employment or be submitted at the time of application. Only certifications provided by American Heart Association, American Red Cross or District approved provider for First Aid, Adult/Child CPR and AED will be accepted. Online certifications will be accepted from these vendors as long as a hands-on skills assessment is completed.
PLEASE NOTE: District approved providers are: American Heart Association and American Red Cross
Valid California Driver's License.

Potential exposure to physical injury from aggressive behavior.
