Position Description:

Calico is seeking an Associate Director, Program Management to join the Project Management team responsible for advancing exciting drug candidates into the clinic to treat diseases with high unmet medical need.

The successful candidate is expected to apply the principles of project management with the demonstrated ability to manage drug development projects from research to proof of concept. The individual will work closely with the project leader, strategic collaborators and cross-functional teams to actively facilitate teams in defining project strategy, developing integrated project plans and implementing the plans to meet defined objectives.

The individual will establish and maintain functionally integrated project timelines and will prepare and manage project team budgets in collaboration with Finance and the cross functional team leads. Partner with the team leader to ensure the team achieves and maintains a successful team dynamic with a high-level of sustainable performance.

The individual is expected to identify and participate in establishing and improving project management tools and processes across the drug discovery and development portfolio to support various strategic initiatives. Additional responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, supporting and leading (as deemed appropriate) Health Authority, Ad Board and Steering Committee meetings.

Position requirements:

  • BS degree required in a life science discipline, MS or PhD preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years managing drug development projects in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry
  • Extensive knowledge of the drug development process and deliverables at each stage of the pipeline, with a focus on IND enabling studies through clinical proof-of-concept
  • Experience with project management practices and proficiency with project management tools and software
  • Experience with developing, implementing, and driving adoption of “fit for purpose” tools for augmenting processes across the company
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and summarize complex information into key concepts for broader communication
  • Experience successfully managing projects with significant participation by external collaborators that involved the candidate’s close interaction with the partner
  • Experience facilitating and documenting team meetings to enable cross-functional communication, decision-making, and alignment with internal and external stakeholders while managing project scope, deliverables, risks, and resources
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive working relationship with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented mindset with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A positive can-do attitude, exceptional organizational and analytical skills and a proven ability to drive for results and support innovation
  • Must be willing to work onsite at least three days a week

The estimated base salary range for this role is $204,000 - $208,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
