Reports to: Principal/Director of ELD

Status: Full-time, Exempt, (During the Academic Year)

Salary Scale: $61,500-92,000 (based on years of experience and expertise)

  • Scales are competitive with other charter school organizations and local districts.

Our first school, Beta Academy in Richmond, CA, opened in 2014 and ChangeMakers Academy in Vallejo, CA opened in fall 2016. Both Beta and ChangeMakers are currently TK-8 campuses serving more than 800 students. We plan to open additional schools in future years as we grow to nearly 4,000 seats K-12 in the Bay Area.


Position Summary

ELD Teachers provide direct English Language Development instruction to Caliber students who are learning English as a second language. ELD Teachers are responsible for ensuring student achievement and learning by delivering appropriate and effective instruction to all assigned students with the support and guidance they need to succeed.. In addition to this designated instruction, the ELD Teacher will also work collaboratively, and coordinate integrated ELD instruction to assist general education teachers with selection and development of appropriate strategies to meet the unique needs of English Learners aligned to the CA ELD Standards. The ELD Teacher will maintain compliance with all ELD instructional and reporting requirements, working under the supervision of the ELD Network Program Manager and School Principals.


Responsibilities

  • Teach ELD classes using lesson plans that are differentiated and designed to engage and challenge students.
  • Use ELD Curriculum with integrity (EL Achieve) to students in grades TK-4 or 5-8th.
  • Improve curriculum as needed by differentiating the material for students and EL levels.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methods to support students including SDAIE strategies.
  • Collaborate with ELD Network Program Manager on school wide Professional Development to support multilingual learners with accessing core-content instruction
  • Collaborate with Director of ELD to support core content teachers to modify lessons aligned to both Common Core State Standards and incorporate the CA ELD Standards that are appropriate for EL students at each level
  • Manage Newcomer and EL student weekly progress reports to include i-Ready and behavioral and academic reports in partnership with other teachers.
  • Support quarterly progress of all students in their classes using appropriate data
  • Participate in Monthly EL Community of Practice Meetings to utilize, refine, and implement existing ELD Plan across the school
  • Inform parents of Caliber ELD program through personal conferences, meetings, and various media using the primary language when appropriate
  • Assist with parent meetings at times on the weekend and evening to ensure parent partnership in EL student social emotional and academic development.
  • Assess student performance frequently and objectively
  • Communicate individual student progress, both educationally and socially, through report cards, phone calls to parents, and weekly grade team meetings
  • Systematically and collaboratively use data to improve teaching and learning
  • When Possible, attend weekly planning meetings with core content teachers, other ELD Teachers, Special Education Teachers, and Teaching Assistants to plan and coordinate instruction
  • Attend RtI meetings and collaborate with the RtI team regarding academic and behavioral interventions
  • Attend student IEP meetings
  • Attends staff meetings, in-service meetings, team meetings, grade level meetings, and department meetings, as required.
  • Other duties, as required responsibilities specific to ELD instruction.
  • Assist with the administration of all state mandated testing (ELPAC) for English Language Learners (ELLs) to design and place students in programs that best fit their needs
  • Build school-wide capacity of best practices for ELLs through co-planning, co-teaching, planning and facilitating professional development, and collaborating with teachers and building administrators
  • Teach multiple and varying grade levels during designated ELD blocks
  • Other tasks as assigned

The employee will encounter exposure to ill students. The position requires mobility to climb, kneel, stoop, crawl, reach and bend, and accurate perceiving of sound; near and far vision with the ability to read small print; depth dexterity; and the providing of oral information and direction. The position is primarily located at a school site with outside supervision and some district office visits. The employee will frequently work independently with high work volume and tight deadlines.


Qualifications

Required:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • California Single Subject or Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with EL Authorization. (BCLAD, CLAD)

Other Qualifications:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Within 60 days of hire, provision of TB (tuberculin) clearance, as mandated by the California Education Code
  • CA DOJ and FBI fingerprint (Livescan) clearance prior to the first day of school
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination OR approved medical or religious exemption

Preferred:

Experience:

  • Successful relevant teaching experience with English Learners in an urban school setting is preferred
  • Fluency in another language in addition to English (Spanish and/or Portuguese)
