Status: Full-time, Exempt, (During the Academic Year)

Salary Scale: $55,500-69,000 (based on years of experience and expertise)

Position Summary

Caliber Public Schools is searching for a Temporary Behavior/SEL Support Associate. The associate will have a passion for supporting Tier 2 Tier 3 students in developing grade level behavioral skills. The associate will be responsible for ensuring that all students are receiving the socio-emotional services that meet each student’s identified and targeted needs.

The associate supports with effective communication and accountability structures, supports with student behavior challenges, monitors/supports with the Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS / SST Team), coordinates the Director of MH SEL, and the Lead Behaviorist , and will assist in leading Social Emotional Learning professional development throughout the school year. The Associate will be managed/coached by the Director of SEL MH., and be trained in dual by the Lead Behaviorist throughout the school year. Additionally, the associate will be joining the SEL team. Therefore, the associate will be working closely with all school clinicians and will be responsible for maintaining a high level of confidentiality for all students supported and details discussed.

This associate will be responsible for responding to behavioral needs and incidents in all spaces on campus. The associate will be responsible for, but not limited to, maintaining the RJ room, assisting with the implementation of the Collab model, crisis response, SST process, etc. They will need to be skilled in community, restorative, and reentry circles; defining and applying logical consequences; maintaining documentation and creating thorough structures for communication with families, teachers, and admin partners.

The ideal candidate has been in a high performing school and is ready to deepen their content knowledge. An adaptable self-starter who is passionate about ensuring high levels of behavior/ Mental Health success for all students and dedicated to Caliber’s commitment to social-emotional learning and equitable practices. This candidate will need to be able to build strong relationships with students, families, teachers, staff, and leadership. The applicant should be willing to be CPI certified, possess the ability to take effective observation field notes, be willing to be trained in ABA interventions, be willing to obtain RBT training certification, have knowledge of/ be willing to learn the creation of FBA BIPS, ( modify, maintain, draft goals, etc. ), be flexible, and willing to receive and implement constructive feedback.


Essential Job Functions:

SEL

  • Acquire deep understanding of Caliber’s approach to developing students’ behavior and socio emotional competence in order to support and further develop our program in a way that is culturally syntonic with school’s mission and philosophy
  • Immediately respond to high needs behaviors throughout all grade levels to: support, de-escalate, intervene, identify antecedents and help generate/implement support plans to return student to baseline, integrate the student back into the classroom, and increase learning.
  • Model best SEL and restorative justice practices for staff and the larger Caliber community
  • Assist students, staff, families and other members of the admin team in the creation of responses to behavior that align with Restorative Justice Practices
  • Support the implementation of restorative practices, such as guiding students through restorative justice circles and logical consequences (e.g., apology letters, reflection/practice, wellness project, etc.) that they have identified in partnership with staff/peers.
  • Support and advise teachers to effectively address the needs of our students


Systems

  • Internalize school-wide positive behavior integrated support plan (PBIS) to address student mental health, wellness, and socioemotional needs at multiple levels.
  • Support the school success team process (SST)
  • Support staff on the SEL infrastructure and support staff on implementation
  • Support with overseeing system for early identification, response, and referrals for vulnerable students
  • Coordinate with outside agencies related to mental health
  • Collaborate with Director of SPED on Tier 2 3 behavior intervention
  • Support with overseeing student trauma intervention and practices
  • Collaborate with staff members to implement a school-wide positive behavior support plan.


School Culture

  • Support with managing school culture initiatives and events
  • Create long-term plans around student support
  • Conduct data analysis to assess successes and gaps of school culture and student support on a monthly basis


Staff Training

  • Support the training of incoming staff on all components of our SEL program and developmentally appropriate learning ready behaviors for students across grade levels (circle implementation, vision around restorative practices, PBIS, etc.)
  • Work closely with Leadership Team to develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs


Data:

  • Collect, analyze and respond to behavioral intervention data in partnership with the teacher
  • Complete weekly response to behavioral data protocols for Tier 3 students
  • Track and report on Tier 3 behavioral data to identify misconceptions, and notice trends, identify strengths and areas of disparity among populations
  • With teachers, review data and adjust student groups as needed (class lists)
  • Attend SST meetings for assigned students


Family Relationships

  • Communicate regularly with parents and care providers to promote generalization of skills to the home environment.
  • Build trusting relationships with students and families that support long-term work with these stakeholders
  • Evaluate incoming student/family needs and create family and community partnerships


Collaboration:

  • First in line on the crisis response team
  • Attend grade level meetings
  • Receive and implement feedback from coach and grade level partners
  • Share feedback with grade level teams and coach
  • Work with homeroom teacher to plan and co-facilitate planning SST meetings


Perform other duties as required and assigned including but not limited to

This job operates in a school/classroom environment. The employee will encounter exposure to ill students. The position requires mobility to climb, kneel, stoop, crawl, reach and bend, and accurate perceiving of sound; near and far vision with the ability to read small print; depth dexterity; and the providing of oral information and direction. The position is primarily located at a school site with outside supervision and some district office visits. The employee will frequently work independently with high work volume and tight deadlines.

  • CPI & RBT trained OR being willing to obtain certification

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Within 60 days of hire, provision of TB (tuberculin) clearance, as mandated by the California Education Code
  • CA DOJ and FBI fingerprint (Livescan) clearance prior to the first day of school
