Caledonia Cooperative - Walden School is Hiring a Custodian Near Danville, VT

Walden School is a small prek-grade 8 school located in rural Walden, Vermont. We are seeking to hire a custodian that works only on student days (175) and for a few weeks before and after the school begins and ends. The right candidate will be self motivated and be able to work alone. Job Purpose: This position performs cleaning functions at the school at the direction of the manager.Primary Job FunctionKeep building in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Duties may include performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, and cleaning snow or debris from sidewalk.Essential Job Functions1. Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.2. Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.3. Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.4. Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.5. Service, clean, and supply restrooms.6. Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.7. Gather and empty trash.8. Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.9. Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.10. Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.11. Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.12. Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.13. Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.14. Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas, using snowplows, snow blowers, and snow shovels, and spread snow melting chemicals.Job KnowledgeKnowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.Job Skills1. Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral/written instructions and other information.Working ConditionsThis position must have the ability to work in cold/hot environment with proper protection for sustained periods of time. There could be very limited exposure to poor ventilation, fumes, and gases. Noise level is moderate however could include noise levels that require proper protection. Cleaning supplies and chemicals are encountered in normal performance of job duties.
