Position Summary As a Staff Engineer specializing in Controls & Analytics at IHI Terrasun, you will be at the forefront of shaping our battery energy storage systems' efficiency and reliability through advanced control strategies and data-driven analytics. With your background in power system controls, data science, or data engineering, you will lead initiatives to optimize grid operations, enhance asset performance, and drive decision-making processes, while supporting the technical oversight of the Product Development Engineering. Your role will involve leveraging your expertise to design and implement innovative control algorithms, analyze complex datasets, and develop predictive models to anticipate system behavior and performance. Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will drive continuous improvement efforts, contribute to research projects, and help propel our organization towards a smarter, more resilient energy future. Primary Job Functions GeneralAct as chairperson while guiding teams through technical design review process.Provide guidance and direction for technical aspects of product development and project development for Edge and Controls while mentoring the engineering team members.Ensure Product Requirements flow down into the designs.Participate in product planning and roadmap development.Join in the development and maintenance of design documentation, including FMEA's, System Requirements, Design Standards, O&M Manuals and System Guides.Assist OEM vendors with understanding and meeting acceptance criteria.Provide technical input and review through ITO to OTR process, including review of Product requirements.Understand relevant safety and compliance requirements and ensure adherence.Regularly interface and provide support to internal organizations including the Engineering staff, Field Services, and Product Management.Interface and provide support to external parties including Off-Takers/ISO/TSO support staff and customer's engineering staff.Identify innovative solutions and product enhancements that will differentiate IHI's offering. In addition to the General description above, you will have a responsibility to perform one of the following duties based on your primary skillset: Controls EngineerEnsure that the PLC platform is universal, scalable and able to integrate with multiple project configuration and equipment.Provide direction and ensure the control libraries for the energy storage power plant and power block controller meet product requirements.Ensure proper testing and validation of developed components, through factory acceptance tests, on-site commissioning, and site acceptance tests.Responsible for ensuring all IHI Energy Storage SCADA systems are designed to meet product requirements.Provide resolution of energy storage control system and battery/pcs related issues by incorporating new technology as neededSupport special projects to improve energy storage controls, Remote Operations, SCADA, and communications functionality through analysis, requirement definition, and tool building Data EngineerCreate services to receive, translate, and send data in motion to data stores via APIs and query languages.Developing and deploying data pipelines using docker/containerization, Jenkins and Kubernetes.Manage and optimize databases to ensure data integrity, security and availability.Implement data portioning, indexing, and clustering strategies to enhance query performance and enable efficient data retrieval.Participate in the entire software development lifecycle of a product from ideation, wireframing/prototyping, development, testing, deployment, commissioning, and long-term support.Own automated testing and deployment for products. Data ScientistCollaborate with product design and engineering to develop an understanding of the needs and ensure representation in the product requirements.Research and devise innovative statistical models for data analysis.Enable smarter business processes and implement analytics for meaningful insights.Keep current with technical and industry developments.Build tools to automate data collection. OtherSeeks constant improvement, more efficient and less expensive ways and means in work processes.Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.Performs special projects and other miscellaneous duties as assigned by senior management.Maintains high ethical standards in the workplace.Reports all irregular issues and problems to supervisors for solution.Maintains good communication with other management, office staff members and outside contacts.Complies with all company policies and procedures.Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working area.Other responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Director, Engineering & Technology and Director, Product Development Engineering Job Dimensions (skills, knowledge & abilities) Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Process Controls, Engineering Technology, or combination of education and relevant experience10 years' experience in power systems in either Power System controls, data analytics, or data engineering10 years' experience in technical and data-related roles including demonstrated experience with implementing, operating, and maintaining Energy Storage Control System or Monitoring softwareExperience with battery and power management strongly desiredWorking in every stage of the product development lifecycle from converting business specifications/requirements to technical solutions through deployment, and maintenance.Understanding of communications diagrams and advanced networking topology is requiredA subset of the following based on specialization: Working knowledge of network security, structured programming languages, energy storage control software, industrial communication protocols, and monitor and control systemsFamiliarity with industrial communication protocols (MODBUS, DNP, ICCP, and OPC)Ability to visualize data in the most effective way possibleExperience with machine learning, AI, and statistical techniquesAdvanced pattern recognition and predictive modeling experienceAnalyzing messaging protocols using tools like tcpdump, WireShark, and custom data producers and consumers.Reading, writing, and converting data formats like json, yaml, csv, pandas dataframes, and relational databases.Working with Prometheus, PromQL, and Grafana.Developing and deploying Docker workflows.Working in a Linux environment including basic shell scripting and system monitoring.Experience with GE, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric or SEL PLC productsExperience with Excel, PowerPoint, SQL, and programming languages such as Python or Java.Experience with design tools such as Microsoft Visio, etc. is a required Qualifications (Education & Work Experience) Agile, able to handle rapidly changing requirementsExcellent communication skills (verbal/written)Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Windows system administrationAbility to be self-motivated and perform duties in a collaborative working environment Tools & Equipment General office equipment including phones and personal computerProficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel Certificates/Licenses PE License (preferred), may be helpful, but not required Work Environment & Physical Demands The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the primary job functions of this position. The national pay range for this role is $142,700 - $187,100 / year and is considered a Level P5 – Individual Contributor Level role. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in an annual discretionary bonus.
