ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY

SUMMARY:Currently searching for one Part-Time Undergraduate Student Assistant to work in the A.I. Innovations, N.V. Grant, under the supervision of Dr. Simeng Li, Principal Investigator.

ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality1500 management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.

The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):

The part-time student assistant will work with Dr. Simeng Li on the multidisciplinary research projects related to water and environmental topics. This position will involve reading academic literature, conducting laboratory and field experiments, data management, data visualization, discussing the research process with faculty advisor, and meeting with community practitioners. The student will also assist in preparing an academic research paper for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. The student will be expected to attend an academic conference to disseminate research discoveries and remain updated about progress and future goals.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be a Cal Poly Student pursuing an undergraduate's degree in Civil Engineering, preferably in Environmental and Water Resources option.
  • Excellent English verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Responsible and dependable.
  • Ability to work well with various people including students, faculty, staff, and high-level administrators
  • Motivated, innovative, and shows initiative.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and instructional design with Canvas and Kaltura

PREFERRED

  • Previously or currently taking an CE3201 Environmental Engineering course, or experience with a CPP Office of Undergraduate Research program (RIO, McNair Scholars, etc.).
  • Knowledge of MATLAB, SPSS and/or GIS preferred.
