Description

Hours and days work may vary. Must be available to work mornings, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends.

Hiring range for this position is $33,072.00- $39,520.00. Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 35% percentile. Pay grade for this position is 10.


Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older.


General Definition of Work:

Performs responsible skilled work involving a variety of assignments at all County Parks in accordance with business needs. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Park Program Managers. Daily guidance and direction are provided to part-time Park Rangers, Recreation Facility Operators, and Community Service Workers.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
Patrolling all parks to ensure patron safety and enjoyment; ensuring park equipment is maintained and the parks are clean and reservations are adhered to; inspects parks for cleanliness - collects and empties trash and cleans restrooms; secures monies used in transactions and collected fees; prepares and maintains files and records.

  • Opens and closes park location to which assigned. Secures park buildings at closing.
  • Supervises concession, pool and facility operators.
  • Collects and accounts for fees.
  • Monitors and supervises the Barn at Frank Liske Park when reserved.
  • Patrols parks to ensure patron use, safety and enjoyment.
  • Responds to inquiries and assists Park visitors by explaining park features, need for conservation.
  • Ensures Park facilities and grounds are clean, safe, sanitized, and stocked with supplies.
  • Enforces Park rules and regulations.
  • Enforces ordinances regulating use of County Parks and facilities and State Fishing regulations
  • Directs traffic and assists with special events.
  • Assists in the preparation and presentation of park interpretive programs and special events.
  • Assists in set-up, clean up or repair of park facilities.
  • Maintains Park equipment. Submits work orders for repairs.
  • Takes reservations and reviews on-line reservation system regularly.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports on park activities.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of laws, policies, procedures, and ordinances governing Cabarrus County Parks. Knowledge of State Fishing Regulations. Ability to enforce rules and regulations while maintaining good customer service. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, subordinates, and the public. Ability to communicate effectively.

Minimum Education / Experience requirements

Education and Experience:
Requires graduation from High School and some experience in park and recreation work and public contact work. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Special Requirements:
Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina. Position is safety sensitive as defined by the Drug Free Workplace Policy. Possession of current CPR and AED and first aid certifications. Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule; requires some work before and after park operating hours and some weekends.


Physical Requirements:

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, hazards, and atmospheric conditions. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
