Butler-Cohen Design + Build is Hiring an Assistant Construction Superintendent Near Stanton, TX

Assistant Superintendents for Butler-Cohen maintain a full-time on-site presence at the Project Site to guarantee our commitment to building the right way, and by the most cost-effective, schedule-conscious means possible. They are responsible for implementing and enforcing Butler-Cohen’s safety culture on the project site, continuous field supervision as directed by the superintendent, coordination, and completion of the wWork, and managing the Project Site. Other tasks including, but not limited to, organization and coordination of Subcontractors, keeping cost records on Work performed and materials supplied, controlling of costs in materials and wages; exercising control over rate of construction progress to assure completion of the Project within the Project Schedule; inspecting or observing the Work to enforce conformity to the Contract Documents; and supervising trades, subcontractors, clerical staff, and other personnel employed in the construction of the Project.

  • Manage the activities of subcontractors, vendors, and labor, maintaining strict control over the accuracy and quality for each work activity, including communicating the project schedule.
  • Assist the Superintendent in preparing the Prepare 3-week look-ahead schedules. and maintain project schedule controls.
  • Identify and document deficient on-site activities that may impede progress or compliance to Contract Documents.
  • Review change orders with the Project Manager prior to execution.
  • Review subcontract agreements.
  • Review the budget for each work activity with the project manager.
  • Coordinate receipt of and inventory of all Owner supplied materials.
  • Coordinate receipt of and inventory all material delivered to the jobsite for completeness and accuracy in conjunction with the product data submittals.
  • If required or directed by the Superintendent, Provide complete daily reports to the Project Manager, with sufficient detail, accurate tracking of issues/delays, and positive observations noted.
  • Maintain open communication and goodwill with the Owner's representative by coordinating pertinent work activities, attending project progress/scheduling meetings and by understanding the client’s expectations.
  • Own the Assist the superintendent with process for scheduling subcontractors.
  • Review approved/returned submittals.
  • Prepare/assist in writing RFIs to design team.
  • Implement, manage, and maintain company's orientation program for all new workers on the project, including implementing safety policies, with incorporated site-specific requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and in-order set of project as-built drawings.
  • Implement, maintain, and enforce the company's quality control plan.
  • Coordinate all required field inspections and maintain the inspection log.
  • Perform, upload, and maintain daily manpower reports, JHA’s, Toolbox Talks, labor reports, and Monthly Checklists.
  • Assist/lead in weekly internal project coordination meetings.
  • Assist/lead in weekly project subcontractor meetings.
  • Review monthly pay applications for work in place in conjunction with the project manager.
  • Promote positive subcontractor relations by dealing professionally and fairly with all subcontractors and vendors.

Education and Experience:

  • 3 years of construction-related experience whether project management or field management, and a BA/BS in a construction-related field.
  • Must have assisted on at least one job of $1-3 million value or greater if presenting prior experience or completed a construction-related internship.
  • Preferred experience in ground-up, new commercial construction or commercial renovation projects whether in a fully operational facility or not.
  • Knowledge of submittals, RFIs, specifications, and drawings.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have the ability to work flexible hours including weekends.
  • Willingness to travel in the market and/or relocate based on project location
  • Able to work in all elements of the outdoor environment which include the heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, etc.
  • Able to access the entire jobsite including stairs, scaffolding, ladders, elevation changes, etc.
  • Can work in physical positions including kneeling, sitting, standing, squatting, bending over, etc.
  • Must be able to move, carry, or position items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to inspect field construction work for compliance to plans and specifications.
  • Communicate clearly with the full spectrum of project stakeholders to achieve positive results
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and strategies for organizing all scopes, people, material, tools, and equipment to manage the project successfully
  • The ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with individuals at all levels of the company including client representatives and subcontractors.
  • Must be able to work and perform duties with minimal supervision and must have extensive problem-solving skills.
  • Must have basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Project Management software (Procore preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of all project documents, including specifications, plans, submittals, subcontracts, shop drawings, and any other project specific documents
  • Proficiency in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and structural systems
  • Knowledge of local quality, safety, and health guidelines for construction job sites
  • In-depth understanding of construction operations and processes
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and OSHA site visits.

Working Conditions:

This role is performed in a indoor/outdoor setting on an active construction job site.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $77,250.00 - $97,850.00 per year
