Burlington School District is seeking a musician to join Edmunds Middle School Performance Music Program as a Paraeducator - Band Assistant. he primary placement is Band. You will be engaging students in 6, 7 and 8th grade in learning good musicianship, learning to read music and play instruments/sing, and supporting community performances. This position will not entail solo teaching to band groups, but will include supporting small group lessons and general support of the lead teacher in large performance music classes. Duties may also include supervising a study hall, if needed.

Required Qualifications:

1. A background in education and music education.
2. Proficient in reading music, performance on primary instrument, aural skills and general musicianship.
3. Enjoys working with children ages 11-14.
4. Enthusiastic to share their love of music with students and the community at large
5. Ability to attend concerts: 3-4 per year on weeknight evenings (paid hours)

Education:

• Minimum Required: At least two years post-secondary education or successful completion of the Praxis exam.
• Preferred: Coursework in Childhood related field (i.e. psychology, education, human development, etc.); Associate or Bachelor’s degree.

Experience: 

• Experience teaching individual lessons and/or group lessons (instrumental and/or vocal)
• Expertise in woodwinds preferable, expertise in brass is also good.

The working conditions of this position include: 

1. Work environment is a regular office, classroom, outdoor, community preschool or other school setting.
2. Occasional exposure to weather extremes.
3. Ability to tolerate extremes in noise levels.
4. Strength and stamina to safely restrain a student 

SALARY:

As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Paraeducators of the Burlington School District. 

In addition to the base rate of pay. Intensive Needs Paras will receive a premium for hours worked directly with intensive special needs (ISN) students of $4.00 per hour.

Health and life insurance benefits are available for this position after a period of 45 working days. Dental benefits are available after 1 full working year.
