Burlington School District is seeking an energetic individual to fill our Grounds Coordinator position. The Grounds Coordinator works with ground personnel assigning and coordinating the day to day tasks to insure the maintenance of the physical school properties. All grounds, athletic fields, playgrounds, parking lots, and driveways are maintained for optimum use at all times.Essential Functions
  • Observe all safety regulations and procedures, and notify management of such concerns if encountered.
  • Coordinate and assign tasks and maintenance requests in collaboration with the Grounds/Transportation Mgr and/or the Directory of Property Services.
  • Assumes responsibility for the care and maintenance of all school district grounds.
  • Coordinates and works alongside with personnel assigned to him/her on a day to day basis.
  • Delivers supplies and equipment throughout the district as needed.
  • Use discretion in discussing school affairs, recognizing the value of positive school-community relations.
  • Provides back up labor to various tradesmen during seasonal workload shift.
  • Removes snow from all school lots and walkways with help from the grounds staff and Head Custodians.
  • Performs routine maintenance of Athletic Fields, lining of all grass and paved areas as required.
  • Maintains equipment and provides basic preventative maintenance on all grounds and snow removal equipment. .
  • Examines district owned facilities, playgrounds, and athletic fields on a regular basis for the purposes of preventative maintenance.
  • Repairs fences and playground equipment.
  • Comply with Board and Administrative Policies, Regulations and Procedures, and reinforce students’ doing the same.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Attend scheduled department meetings.
  • Attendance in accordance with established days/hours of work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Property Services or designee.
QualificationsEducation/Licenses/Certifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Drivers License
  • Playground Maintenance Certification - Preferred
Experience
  • At least a minimum of 5 years experience with summer and winter grounds maintenance work.
Specific Skills And/Or Abilities
  • Must have knowledge in the use of all types of grounds equipment and machinery.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of the operation of building security systems.
  • Ability to follow directions and complete tasks with minimal supervision: able to work independently.
  • Knowledge and sufficient comprehension of the job duties to solve unusual as well as common work problems.
  • Ability to advise on technical matters and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.
  • Relevant work experience in multiple trades.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Must have good interpersonal and human relations skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to follow directions and complete tasks with little or no supervision; ability to work independently.

  • Possess strength and stamina to be able to remain in a seated position for up to 90 minutes at a time throughout the workday.

  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
  • Ability to carry up to 60 lbs.
  • Frequent and constant walking, light lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, bending, stooping, climbing (including ladders) or other physical activities.
Employment Benefits/Terms
  • SALARY: As per the Master agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association. This is a Full-time hourly position paid Bi-Weekly. Hours and work location are subject to change at any time to reflect facility needs.
