The Burlington School District is seeking a passionate and energetic Early Education Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our school committed to high levels of achievement of all students at Flynn Elementary. Primary responsibilities include planning and providing speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice, or language disorders. Additionally, assessing students and providing therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with students' ability to derive full benefit from the educational program. Applicants must be dedicated to the belief and desire for the inclusion of all students, and eager to be a member of a high energy, fast-paced dedicated Early Education team as well as individual student teams in support of student success for all.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Consult with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals, the needs of the student, and involvement in the remedial process.
  2. Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities to improve communication skills of students.
  3. Provide professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify and work more effectively with students with communication deficits.
  4. Assess, screen, and evaluate students and effectively share results with parents and educational staff, and participate in the eligibility determination process in accordance with state and school division requirements and best practice.
  5. Develop and implement individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with Speech/Language impairment and assists with IEPs for students with speech/language as a service on an annual basis or according to requirements.
  6. Provide consultative services for school staff by sharing and demonstrating specific techniques and working with school teams to facilitate relevant and consistent interventions for targeted students.
  7. Maintain records and information concerning individual students in the prescribed confidential manner and using the records and information only for the purposes for which they are maintained according to FERPA guidelines.
  8. Provide direct and consultative therapeutic services related to expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language.
  9. Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community for the purpose of fostering individual student success and growth.
  10. Maintain and submit information/records including student progress for all students
  11. Share with other staff members the responsibility for school activities and student supervision.
  12. Perform related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with school district policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Job Requirements:
    • Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
    • Endorsement as an SLP (84) or eligible for Vermont Provisional License.
    • Currently qualified or eligible for CCC.
    • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Required Qualifications:
    • Experience as a Speech Language Pathologist
    • Knowledge of research/evidenced based academic interventions.
    • Experience supporting students with social cognition, behavioral, and social emotional needs.
    • Current knowledge and experience with Speech and Language assessments
    • Experience training and supervising para-educators providing support services to special needs students
    • Experience in planning, leading, and managing large and potentially complex IEP meetings with students, parents, teachers, outside agencies, community mentors, and other support people.
    • Understanding of Cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 on SchoolSpring).
    • Knowledge of best practices regarding frameworks of student behavioral support.
Preferred Attributes :
    • Training and/or experience with English Language Learners.
    • Experience with birth to 6 yr children
    • Experience in inclusive settings
      Experience with teaming with early childhood teachers and/or early childhood special educators
    • Evidence of integrating technology into the learning environment.
    • Ongoing educational post graduate coursework in education or subject area, including diversity, equity and inclusion.
EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS/TERMS:
  • SALARY: As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association. This is a salaried position paid Bi-Weekly with a lump sum payment for the summer period.
  • SCHOOL YEAR: 10 months, 187 workdays (based on start date), 7.75 per day/38.75 per week
  • BENEFITS: Benefits eligible on start date. 30 days to enroll in coverage from start day. BSD Benefits!
  • PAID TIME: Sick Time / Personal Time As per the Master Agreement .
