MEDIA SPECIALIST

DEPARTMENT: School Name

POSITION SUMMARY:

Developing and administering an integrated school library media program. Instruct students and staff in effective use of the media center, information and technology literacy skills, and use of equipment. Evaluate, select and procure print and digital resources and related equipment. Develop policies and procedures to ensure efficient operation, services, and facility use for a school library media program. Implement a results-oriented information and technology literacy skills curriculum integrated with subject area curriculum through partnerships with teachers. Provide leadership and guidance for effectively integrating technologies with instruction to create 21st century instructional strategies. Instruct teachers, administrators, and other staff in the use of new information technologies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid instructional technology certification.
  • Experience working with a diverse group of people.
  • Embodies the core values of the district; relational, purposeful, reflective, resourceful, courageous and accountable.

  • Must be able to provide a criminal background check with results that adhere to Bulloch County Board of Education Policy GAK(1).

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid media specialist certification.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaboratively plans instruction and develops the library media program using state and district curricula and standards, instructional calendars, effective strategies, resources and data to support teachers and addresses the differentiated needs of all students.
  • Develops a culture of reading and promotes reading as a foundational skill for learning, personal growth and enjoyment.
  • Plans and provides instruction that addresses multiple literacies, including information literacy, media literacy and technology literacy.
  • Fosters the success of all students by serving on decision-making teams in the school, designing and delivering professional learning and contributing to a shared vision of teaching and learning that leads to school improvement.
  • Teaches and models developmentally appropriate best practices for learning and research.
  • Develops and implements a strategic plan and vision for continuous improvement of the library media program and to support the learning goals of the school community.
  • Provides a well-managed, safe and welcoming environment that supports personalized learning, includes flexible and equitable access to physical and digital resources, ensures a well-rounded education and encourages respect for all.
  • Supports the curriculum through selection and management of resources that meet the needs and interests of patrons.
  • Fosters the success of students by demonstrating professional standards and ethics, engaging in continuous professional learning and contributing to the profession.
  • Fosters the success of all students by communicating and collaborating effectively with stakeholders in ways that enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Performs other duties as requested. 

PERFORMANCE FACTORS: 

  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of force greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated light work.

  • Organizational Skills: Ability to establish priorities, simultaneously manage multiple tasks; and deliver a quality work product by a designated deadline.
  • Public Contact: Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with superiors, colleagues, parents, and other individuals within and external to the school system. Ability to demonstrate professionalism while interacting with others and to maintain constructive working relationships.
  • Attendance and Dependability: Ability to report to work at the scheduled time and to seldom be absent from work. Demonstrate prompt and regular work attendance. Process appropriate paperwork to authorize absences in accordance with school system procedures. Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate manner and to be conscientious about work performance.

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designated supervisor in accordance with Policy GBI - Evaluation of Personnel.
