Bullis School seeks a Lower School Physical Education Teacher to contribute to our vibrant learning community for the 2024-25 academic year. Strong candidates for this position will also offer coaching experience and will have opportunities to coach in our middle and upper school athletics programs. This position reports to the Head of Lower School.
Lower School physical education classes engage students in a program that develops fundamental, developmentally appropriate motor skills and concepts through the implementation of a robust and engaging curriculum aligned with the Shape Standards. K-5 grade level classes are co-taught by two physical education teachers and promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle. Successful Lower School teachers at Bullis are committed to ongoing professional development and a wide range of teaching approaches to reach a diverse student population. In line with the school’s culture of innovation and a student-centered approach, curriculum development, and lesson design are continuous endeavors.
Essential Functions
Co-teach physical education to K-5 students based on the course meeting schedule
Design and develop curriculum content in physical education using the Shape Standards
Engage students in a curriculum that develops sportsmanship, teamwork and promotes a healthy lifestyle
Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy
Evaluate student performance by entering grades and comments in a timely manner
Stay up to date on current pedagogical practices and field-related trends
Communicate with parents, school counselors, and administrators on students’ progress, as needed and appropriate
Collaborate with grade-level and interdisciplinary teams
Extra duties include carpool, recess, transporting students to and from the athletic center, and lunch
Attend divisional and departmental meetings

Bachelor’s Degree in physical education or a related field
Minimum of two years prior teaching experience
Preferred:
Master’s Degree in physical education or a related field
