Bullis School seeks a Lower School Art Teacher to contribute to our vibrant learning community starting in the 2024-25 academic year. Candidates should be capable of teaching a range of students, with a specific focus on developing and implementing a robust, engaging, and culturally responsive arts curriculum that reflects the National Core Arts Standards. This position reports to the Head of the Lower School.
The Lower School Art teacher is responsible for introducing and establishing a strong foundation of visual art for lower school students by developing and implementing a robust and engaging transdisciplinary curriculum. Lower School teachers create the conditions for discovery inside and outside the classroom by supporting and encouraging students to take risks, collaborate, and explore. Teachers develop and implement curriculum, evaluate student work using grades and comments, and communicate student progress with parents. Successful teachers at Bullis are committed to ongoing professional development and a wide range of teaching approaches to reach a diverse student population. In line with the school’s culture of innovation and a student-centered approach, curriculum development, Portrait of a Graduate, and lesson design are continuous endeavors.
Essential Functions
Teach art to all Lower School students based on the course meeting schedule
Design and develop curriculum content in visual art
Use technology to blend learning and engage students in active, experiential, and hands-on learning
Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy
Evaluate student performance by entering grades and comments promptly
Committed to staying up to date on current pedagogical practices and field-related trends
Communicate with parents, school counselors, and administrators on students’ progress, as needed and appropriate.
Design and implement assessments that measure progress toward academic standard and provide timely feedback to students
Ability to use the student learning management system to provide timely feedback, grades, and assignments to students
Collaborate with grade-level and interdisciplinary teams
Extra duties including carpool, recess, lunch, and hallway monitor
Attend divisional and departmental meetings
Other Duties
Other tasks as assigned by the Head of Lower School

Education and Experience
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in art or a related field
Minimum of two years prior teaching experience
Preferred:
Master’s Degree in art or a related field
Teaching certificates
Experience teaching in a technology-rich environment, including Accelerated Reader and iPad integration
Experience with Responsive Classroom
