Bullis School seeks a Lower and Middle School General Music and Choral Teacher to contribute to our vibrant learning community starting in the 2024-25 academic year. Candidates should be capable of teaching a range of students, with a specific focus on developing and implementing a robust, engaging, and culturally responsive curriculum in general and choral music that reflects state and national standards. This position reports to the Head of the Lower School.
The General Music and Choral teacher is responsible for introducing and establishing a strong foundation of musical experiences for lower and middle school students through the development and implementation of a robust and engaging curriculum. They will uphold school values and engage in a professional learning community with other department members through collaboration, professional development, and other initiatives. Bullis teachers develop and implement curriculum, evaluate student work using grades and comments, and communicate student progress with parents. Successful teachers at Bullis are committed to ongoing professional development and a wide range of teaching approaches to reach a diverse student population. In line with the school’s culture of innovation and a student-centered approach, curriculum development, and lesson design are continuous endeavors.
Essential Functions
Create a welcoming, purposeful classroom environment that promotes a love of music
Teach general music to grades K-3
Direct 4-5 Chorus and 6-8 Chorus
Design and develop a culturally responsive curriculum in general and choral music which reflects state and national standards
Engage in regular professional development to stay up to date on current pedagogical practices and field-related trends.
Produce and direct scheduled concerts and assembly performances in collaboration with colleagues.
Use technology to blend learning and engage students in active, experiential, and hands-on learning.
Communicate with parents, school counselors, and administrators on students’ progress, as needed and appropriate.
Design and implement assessments that measure progress toward academic standards and provide timely feedback to students
Collaborate with grade-level and interdisciplinary teams
Fulfill team duties, including carpooling, recess, lunch, and hallway monitoring
Attend divisional and departmental meetings
Other Duties

Bachelor’s Degree in music or a related field
Minimum of two years prior teaching experience
Preferred:
Master’s Degree in music or a related field
Teaching certificate
Orff, Kodaly, and/or Music Learning Theory certifications
Experience teaching in a technology-rich environment, including Chromebook and iPad integration
Experience using Canvas or other learning management systems.
