Summary:
The Resident in Counseling will assess the needs of individuals referred to the program and use information obtained to develop and implement appropriate treatment approaches and counseling support services. These services include developing individual treatment plans, conducting assessments, providing counseling services, and educating individuals on available community resources.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a relevant human services field from an accredited institution
  • Registered with VA Board of Counseling for clinical supervision, working toward licensure
  • Eligible to register as an LMHP-E with the VA Board of Counseling within 3 months of hire
  • Valid US Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1 year of experience working with the population served
Related Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of community mental health and public health to provide advocacy.
  • Knowledge of the principles, techniques, trends, and literature related to mental health, intellectual disabilities, and substance abuse.
  • Skill to analyze situations accurately and develop appropriate responses or techniques.
  • Skills to communicate effectively to facilitate treatment and relay information to others to work as a team.
  • Skill to perform clinical interviews to obtain information and to formulate appropriate treatment plans.
  • Ability to present and communicate findings related to consumers to both internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to develop and maintain therapeutic relationships.
  • Ability to promote positive, collaborative, and professional working relations among co-workers and representatives in the community.
  • Ability to respond effectively to changes in the work environment positively and professionally.
  • Ability to work in and contribute to a collaborative team environment
  • Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holidays, etc.) as required.
  • Ability to drive. May be called upon to travel to another worksite, transport clients, and provide services to clients at other locations.
  • Regular training and company meetings attendance may require travel to various sites.
