The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Performs oversight of the maintenance activities including but not limited to: long term (bus) fleet requirements; daily bus fleet service requirements; safety management; preventative maintenance programs; operational cost analysis; asset management; and maintenance information systems.
Provides oversight of on-going service planning efforts, long-range planning projects, scheduling related activities, and capital projects; coordinates with external stakeholders; works closely with staff members in support of Division goals for safe, courteous, and reliable transit services.
Develops and implements strategies to ensure bus maintenance program goals are achieved.
Works directly with department heads and division directors; directs superintendents and other assigned staff during emergencies or critical situations, equipment breakdowns, and service delays.
Reviews and approves specifications for bus vehicles, bus support equipment, shop tools and equipment.
Provides technical leadership and direction ensuring the successful integration of new methods and technologies with existing application systems.
Monitors staff compliance with the divisions' policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements; as well as local, state and federal rules and regulations and complies with all reporting requirements.
Interacts with internal Division sections and outside agencies to identify and coordinate schedule and procedural improvements; provides input for the development of the budget for the Division and manages the assignment of Division resources to ensure that service objectives are achieved within the established budget.
Manages the delivery of transportation services for the assigned Division for long term sustainability; develops and supervises special projects related to Division operational goals, from inception to close, on time and within project scope and budget.
Recruiting staff, assigning work, training, coaching, and counseling to ensure consistent application of Broward County and Transportation Department guidelines, processes, and procedures.
Ensures the proper maintenance of employee records and department statistics related to assigned operations.
Plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of professional, administrative and hourly staff.
Makes recommendations for disciplinary actions, and participates in problem solving forums, grievance resolution, and related labor relations activities.
Conducts performance reviews and holds employees accountable for the performance of their responsibilities.
Performs related work as assigned.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
Performs work on typical office equipment (computer, phone, fax, radio etc.)
Must be able to navigate in a garage setting, in multiple physical locations.
Must be able to travel for seminars, purchasing, or other business needs
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to elevated noise levels.
Exposure to hazards related to maintenance in a garage setting, chemicals, tripping hazards, etc.
