Full-Time: 8am-5pm (Flexible) with this position there will be 20% of travel to local facilities.

Position Summary: Infection Control RN is a registered nurse responsible for planning, development and management of activities to ensure an effective and efficient IC program for the inpatient hospital and outpatient centers of Health System. Develops and implements nursing and ancillary department members’ techniques to improve patient care in measures that prevent infection; makes nursing decisions relating to medical care and management based on clinical judgment in prevention or dealing with infection in a hospital.

Responsibilities:

• Offers guidance and recommendations to those who provide direct care to a generalized caseload of patients within the context of the expertise of Infection Control.
• Receives and assesses referrals from all hospital units.
• Consults with nursing staff to develop, implement, and evaluate care plans for particular patients and families for prevention or management of infections.
• Teaches patients and/or families demonstrating unique learning needs in order to promote an optimal level of wellness.
• Initiates and develops teaching guidelines specific to the area of infection control and management.
• Develops and conducts internal and external formal education programs.
• Performs surveillance duties and record keeping of all patients with community or nosocomial infections.
• Documents in the patient medical record as necessary.
• Applies appropriate current theoretical concepts to implement changes in medical and nursing practices within the institution to improve patient care and prevent infections.
• Demonstrates professional commitment through membership in nursing committees, institutional activities, and specialty organizations.
• Submits monthly reports to the Infection Control Committee and Safety Committee and other designated committees or persons.
• Possesses practical knowledge of hospital asepsis.
• Demonstrates sound interpersonal and communicative skills.
• Reports to appropriate state,county, and local health agencies regarding communicable diseases.
• Conveys a positive attitude and projects a professional image in the community as well as within the hospital.
• Represents the hospital and nursing department to the community and to other healthcare and educational organizations and acts as a resource on infection control issues.
• Responsible for acquisition, maintenance, and judicious use of supplies necessary for the position.
• Authorized by the Medical Director to take immediate action and to intervene when an unsafe environment is identified.
• Responsible for reporting on-the-job injuries at once.

Qualifications:

• Registered Nurse with a State of Florida License.
• Minimum of three to five years medical/surgical, and/or critical care experience.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Prefer certification in Infection Control CDC and/or Occupational Health Certification
