Telecommunications Cabling Technician at Brooklyn College

Qualification Requirements-

· Candidates must possess a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

· Candidates must possess eighteen months of related full-time work experience, or an equivalent combination of work experience and education beyond the High School Diploma.

· Completion of college credits in Information Technology may be substituted at the rate of three credits for three month's experience. Completion of eighteen college credits in Information Technology may be substituted for the entire experience requirement.

· Completion of eighteen additional college credits outside the field of Information Technology may be substituted for an additional six months of experience.

· Demonstrated English language proficiency, Including the ability to speak, read, write, and understand English well enough to meet minimally acceptable performance standards set for the job tasks.

· A Motor Vehicle Driver's License, valid on the State of New York, may be required for some, but not all, positions.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Under the supervision of the Telecommunications Technical Operations Manager, act as a telecommunication cabling technician performing installations and repairs, providing user support, and system maintenance.

The IT Hourly Support Assistant will be responsible for:

· Install and troubleshoot voice/data communication cabling, including Copper category 5/6 cabling and Fiber cabling. Install, maintain and document cabling terminations, panels, and racks. Terminate, test, and document cabling.

·
Resolve telephone system problems, for on-campus and off-campus locations. Maintain, troubleshoot, repair or replace telecommunications system components.

· Install telephone equipment for campus users and associated off-campus facilities and coordinate work with PBX switch technician(s) to ensure that users are provided fully configured phone, voice mail, and auto attendant services.

· Installing new voice and data cabling for smart classroom installations, running new AV cables for classrooms as per AV teams needs.

· Installing new data cabling for Wi-Fi WAP needs of the campus.

· Installing new data cabling and doing repairs for the Helpdesk.

· Working on the installation of the DAS cell phone repeaters installation throughout the campus.

· Transport equipment for delivery, relocation, repair, or storage.

· Maintain detailed electronic records of support calls, repair or installation activity, and inventory.

· Document telecom infrastructure including terminations, circuits, cabling, etc.

· Adhere to priorities for telecom projects, goals and ongoing production and maintenance responsibilities.

· Maintain expertise in all areas of job function on an ongoing basis.

· Adhere to uniform performance standards and efficient methods of work.

· Assist with maintaining reference libraries of related documentation.

· Coordinate with Facilities on installation and repair projects.

· Liaise with other ITS areas to coordinate installation and repair projects.

· Perform other related work as assign.

Salary- $24.08,

32 hours a week.
