The Arc of Greater Brockton
Accountant
(non-exempt position)
REPORTS TO: Director of Finance and Executive Director
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None
The Accountant will provide financial and record-keeping management support to the Director of Finance and Executive Director. The Accountant will be cross-trained as needed to provide administrative support in the areas of finance and associated administrative operations of the organization.
The Accountant position is “hands on”, which requires all work to be performed at The Arc of Greater Brockton offices. This is not a “remote” position.
As with all positions at The Arc of Greater Brockton, consistent punctual arrival at work, commitment to assigned hours, positive attitude, and adherence to the Organization’s policies is expected and is an essential aspect of employment.
EDUCATION
An Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or other business-related course study is preferred, or a combination of education and 2-4 years of experience equivalency.
EXPERIENCEA minimum of 2 years of experience working with financial record keeping, financial software (Quickbooks) and a payroll processing system (ADP). The ability to utilize computers and to navigate and learn new technology is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSA satisfactory background check, including CORI and Fingerprinting is required. A valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record and background check is required.

Individual must be able to take instruction from the Executive Director, Director of Finance, and Departmental Directors as well as work independently. Individual must display a professional, positive and helpful manner and exhibit confidentiality. Individual must possess patience, good judgment, tact, accuracy, and reliability. Individual must demonstrate a high regard for each person and sensitivity for cultural values, expectations and goals of individuals served and their families. Individual must possess good communication skills and have the ability to speak comfortably, intelligibly, pleasantly and efficiently with those served, their families, colleagues, management staff and those calling the Organization. Individual must demonstrate superior multi-tasking skills and exhibit effective time management. Individual must demonstrate attention to detail and possess good observation skills. Individual must have proven initiative skills.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Individual must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policies, and procedure manuals. Must have the ability to compose routine reports and correspondence. Must have the ability to communicate effectively and present information and respond to inquiries from subordinates, management, participants, family members and visitors. Individual must be able to fluently speak and understand English for effective teamwork and coordination. Bi-lingual language skills may be helpful.
REASONING ABILITY
Individual must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to draw valid conclusions. Must be able to concentrate on voluminous lists of financial data. Individual must have the ability to assess situations and resolve problems without supervision. Individual must have thorough knowledge of basic math skills. Must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages. Must have aptitude for quantitative skills. Must have the ability to learn, operate and maintain new office technologies as they are developed and implemented. Must have the ability to work attentively at computer, maintaining focus and concentration on voluminous information, is crucial.
