This position is for the 2024-2025 school year.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional Tennessee teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement.
  • Possess strong writing, speaking, and human relations skills.
  • Meet health and physical qualifications.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOAL

The secondary school teacher is responsible for teaching students and leading them toward fulfilling their intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation potential.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Instruct students in subject matter using various teaching methods, such as lectures and demonstrations. Uses audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement the presentation.
  • Prepares to teach a course of study, assigns lessons, and corrects homework papers corresponding to the course of study.
  • Keeps accurate attendance records.Encourages students to maintain appropriate standards of classroom behavior.
  • Prepares for class and shows evidence of preparation when requested by immediate supervisor.
  • When requested, maintain availability to students and parents for education-related meetings outside the instructional day.
  • Assists in enforcing school rules, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
  • Represents the school to the community in a positive manner.
  • Instructs students in citizenship and primary subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids appropriate to students' interests and maturity level; maintains required classroom inventory records.
  • Adapts the curriculum to provide individual, small group, or remedial instruction to meet the individual student's needs.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on students' progress.
  • Advises student teachers when applicable.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs and committees as assigned.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities (e.g., class sponsor).
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Perform such other duties and tasks as requested by the principal.

  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to move the hands quickly and manipulate small objects with the fingers.
  • Form Perception: To make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures.
  • Color Discrimination: Ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors, shades, or other values of the same color.
