Role: Vice President, R&D Communications

Position Summary

VP, R&D Communications is responsible for developing the narrative of BMS’ scientific innovation, including internal and external communications strategy, execution and measurement of worldwide R&ED communications through all channels, in alignment with business objectives. Also responsible for leading strategies/tactics to engage patients and educational/science global alliance relationships. Working closely with the R&ED organization and its leaders, leads integrated communications strategy across the product pipeline, as well as internal communications and executive communications for R&ED Leaders. This experienced leader will contribute to reputational issues and risk mitigation at the global level as it pertains to topics related to BMS’ pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee integrated worldwide and U.S. R&ED communications strategy and science and innovation narrative across emerging products and sciences

  • Collaborate with Commercial and markets/regions to develop and implement communications strategies to lay the groundwork for market demand for future products/brands

  • Deliver integrated science communications strategy in collaboration with R&ED teams to position key data and milestones aligned with company strategy

  • Build relationships with key stakeholders, including medical media, trade associations and policy makers, to garner positive coverage around Bristol-Myers Squibb’s scientific achievements and aspirations, supporting the company’s reputation and thought leadership activities as they relate to R&ED narrative

  • Develop and oversee worldwide communications strategy for the R&ED organization, including internal communications strategy/narrative, and executive communications strategy and support for leaders

  • Contribute as SME to worldwide issues management for emerging technologies, including design and implementation of issues and crisis management processes for BMS to identify, monitor, communicate and respond to emerging issues at a coordinated, enterprise-wide level

  • Aligned with company's patient focus and the corporate Global Advocacy strategy, define global advocacy strategies/tactics along the product development and commercialization lifecycle that embody patients input and provide support as relevant

  • Represent CA on the R&ED Leadership Team; Advise and counsel R&D executives on all aspects of company reputation, media, issues management, employee engagement and leadership communications; lead communications strategy to support organizational evolution and change management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Accomplished brand/product communications professional with a minimum of 15 years relevant experience, including at least 10 years management experience

  • Proven experience driving successful scientific innovation and product lifecycle strategy and managing the worldwide planning process, including deep

  • Strong understanding of business processes related to product development and the product lifecycle and communications best practices
