Bright Star Schools is Hiring a 23-24 Stella Elementary Charter Academy Behavior Implementation Interventionist (Part-Time) Near Los Angeles, CA

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates for this classification must meet the following standards:

1. The equivalent of graduation from high school* and one of the following:

  • Completion of at least two years of study (48 semester units or 60 quarter units) at an institution of higher education; OR
  • Attainment of an Associate of Arts degree or higher

(Verification will be required for high school graduation, college units, and degrees.)

2. One year of paid or volunteer experience working with school-age children

3. Pass a Department of Justice background check (Livescan)

JOB DESCRIPTION

Provide behavioral support and implement a behavioral intervention plan for students with disabilities (including students with Autism, ADHD, or Emotional Disturbance); monitors and redirects students regarding inappropriate behaviors; positively reinforces appropriate behaviors; enforces and monitors the Behavior Support Plan of identified students with IEPs; complies with the frequency of Behavior Intervention Implementation (BII) services assigned to student per their IEP; performs a variety of specialized tasks to meet the instructional, behavioral and social needs of assigned caseload of students with disabilities; administers Intensive Behavior Intervention methods based on the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) model, to identified students within our Inclusive Education program; performs a variety of clerical duties as assigned.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors student conduct and utilizes approved behavior management techniques to redirect and modify inappropriate behaviors.
  • Administers one-on-one ABA-based Intensive Behavior Intervention methods to designated students in a school setting as directed by the supervisor or other Inclusion specialist.
  • Implements documented Behavior Support Plans.
  • Monitors, observes and reports behavioral data of students according to approved procedures.
  • Assists students by providing appropriate modeling, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.
  • Conducts record review of student data (Cumulative file, Individualized Education Programs, Behavior Support Plans, Functional Behavioral Analysis Assessment, Psycho-educational Assessments).
  • Communicates with teachers, parents, and assigned staff regarding student progress.
  • Assists students in learning proper social awareness and in developing independence.
  • Performs specialized physical health care services and administers medication as directed.
  • Assist teachers in supervision of assigned students in physical and instructional activities.
  • Attends department meetings for the Inclusive Education department.
  • Assists with daily breakfast, lunch, and recess supervision.
  • Plans and leads daily enrichment activities with students.
  • Plans and leads after school tutoring for small cohorts of students.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Ability to:

  • Assist with instructional and related activities of an inclusive learning environment, as directed by a supervisor
  • Demonstrate a patient, receptive, and understanding attitude toward students.
  • Remain calm under stressful conditions.
  • Bend at waist, kneel, or crouch to assist students.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office and classroom equipment.
  • Be dependable and punctual.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and family information.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with school staff, supervisors, parents, and

community agency representatives.

  • Observe, evaluate and report student progress to a teacher/specialist.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Compile and maintain records and files.
  • Operate a variety of office machines.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of coursework at an accredited institution of higher education in child development, education, and/or Psychology is desirable.
  • One year of experience working with handicapped students, including students with autism, and some demonstrated experience implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)-based behavior intervention techniques.
  • One year of experience at the level of an Education Assistant, Instructional Assistant or Assistant/Aide
  • Experience in observing and charting student behavioral data.
  • Training in implementing Behavior Intervention techniques.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Korean is desired but not required.

SUPERVISION

Immediate supervision is provided by assigned personnel (classroom teacher, Inclusion Specialist Teacher, and/or School Psychologist). Indirect supervision is provided by administrative personnel (Principal, VP of Inclusive Education).

I. STUDENT SUPERVISION

  • Orients and provides instructional assistance to individuals or small groups of students.
  • Tutors individuals and small groups of students in various subject areas.
  • Assists teachers in establishing and maintaining a clean, safe and pleasant classroom and learning environment.
  • Assists in preparing instructional materials.
  • Assists in maintaining student records and files.
  • Operates equipment such as copy machines, computers and audiovisual equipment.
  • Supervise students in all indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring a safe environment.
  • Supervise students during breakfast, lunch and snack time.
  • Assist in teaching children to become responsible for their decisions and actions.
  • Guide children’s behaviors in a positive way that teaches self-respect along with respect for others and the community around them.
  • Encourage children to interact positively with other children and people around them.
  • Provide a wide variety of age appropriate activities that offers physical and emotional growth.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with the teacher and classroom team to ensure the individual needs of all children are met.
  • Provide support to others.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Must be organized, creative, independent and self-motivated, enthusiastic, dependable, detail-oriented and flexible in scheduling and prioritization, and driven by excellence
  • Must possess good communication skills to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form, including accurate grammar and business correspondence knowledge.
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships; demonstrated ability to communicate in situations requiring tact and poise; skilled in confidentiality and discretion.
  • Must present a neat, professional appearance.
  • Must be able to adjust tasks and focus with composure, and in accordance with changing deadlines and prior.
