PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Marriage and Family Counselor provides dual diagnosis enhanced services using stage-of-change specific interventions with individualized outcomes focusing on the reduction of symptoms related to both mental health and substance abuse.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Attends staff meetings and works as a team member to identify and implement quality of services.
Performs other duties as assigned
Counsels and assists family members or support persons with understanding and supporting individuals dealing with addictions and mental health.
Provides individual and group counseling sessions to family members. Individual sessions may periodically include struggling family members.
Conducts integrated assessments, including screening for the presence of substance use, problem gambling, mental health conditions, and chronic medical conditions, as well as the presence of systems-related trauma using ASAM criteria and DSM.
Utilizes assessment tools or data in the evaluation, treatment planning, and discharge process, including cognitive behavioral interventions, motivational interventions, and healthy relationships education.
Prepares and maintains all required treatment records and reports.
Counsels clients in individual and group counseling sessions. Individual sessions may periodically include family members or support people.
Counsels family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting clients.
Collects information about clients through interviews, observations, and collateral information.
Acts as client advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
Develops and implements evidence-based, client-centered treatment plans that address mental health and substance use.
Documents treatment reviews, progress notes, status reports, coordination of services, and discharge summaries.
Meets with families, probation officers, police, and other interested parties to exchange necessary information during the treatment process.
Observes urinalysis and completes the chain of custody documentation.
Gathers information about community mental health services and resources to use in conjunction with therapy.
Completes discharge paperwork to include discharge plan completed with the client.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Experience, Education and Credentials
Requires QMHA and CADC certification or ability and willingness to achieve QMHA and CADC within 12 months of hire. A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist is preferred.
Experience must demonstrate the ability to conduct an assessment, including identifying precipitating events, gathering histories of mental and physical health, substance use, past mental health services, and criminal justice contacts.
Assessing family, cultural, social, and work relationships.
Conducting a mental status examination.
Complete a DSM diagnosis.
Write and supervise the implementation of a service/treatment plan.
Provide individual, family or group therapy within the scope of their training.
Experience in the treatment of addictions is strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent interpersonal communication, computer, and time management skills.
Advanced understanding of ASAM PPC-2R and DSM required
Intermediate understanding of Oregon Administrative Rules preferred
Must be able to pass an advanced background check through the Oregon Criminal History and Abuse Records Data System (ORCHARDS) Background Check Unit (BCU).
Must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated.
WORKING CONDITIONS
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Carrying, reaching, and keying/typing. Lifting less than 1 lb.: more than 70%; between 1 & 5 lbs.: 40-70%; between 5 and 60 lbs.: less than 15%. The effort reflected is typically applied in the following work positions: sitting, stooping, standing, bending, and/or walking.
MENTAL OR VISUAL DEMAND
Continuous mental and/or visual attention; the work is either repetitive or diversified requiring constant alertness.
ENVIRONMENT
Work is typically performed under reasonably good working conditions. Some positions do operate in an active medical clinic setting.
SCHEDULING
The Bridgeway Community Connect Program operates 7 days a week, between 7:30 am and 6:30 pm. The position may require availability to work a varied schedule, which could include days, mid shifts, weekends, and holidays. The position's schedule will be set week-to-week with occasional adjustments to meet business needs.
