PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS: Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Random background checks are performed. Credit checks may be performed on candidates/employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) may be performed during the hiring process, or as part of a random check. MVR checks are required to meet insurance requirements for those employees operating a university vehicle or participating in any driving activity on behalf of Brenau University, (including operating a golf cart, rented vehicle or one’s personal vehicle). Employees who travel must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. All employees who operate university vehicles, who are employed in a sensitive position, or who travel regularly as part of their job responsibilities may be subject to post-hire drug screening and random drug-screening. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening..

Position Summary: This faculty member will work primarily at the Norcross campus but will teach some courses in Gainesville for the M.S. in Clinical Counseling Psychology Program. These courses include Research Methods, Statistics, Thesis I, Thesis II, Ethics, and possibly Practicum and Internship. This person will also serve as the Norcross Fieldwork Coordinator. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Counseling, Clinical Counseling Psychology, or Mental Health Counseling with a CPCS certification for supervision
  • Licensed as Professional Counselor in Georgia 
  • Three years of higher education teaching experience
  • Preferred expertise in quantitative research methods and experience in chairing of graduate thesis projects 
  • Preferred Three Years of Clinical Supervision Experience

 Responsibilities:

  • Fieldwork Coordinator duties (one course reassigned time):
    1. Oversee fieldwork placement of the Norcross Clinical Counseling Psychology Master’s level students, including meeting with students to provide information about potential clinical sites, the process for obtaining placement, and departmental requirements for Practicum I, Practicum II, and Internship. Ensure students are placed for practicum and internship and assist with site changes as needed.
    2. Collaborate with the Internship Director of the Lynn J. Darby School of Adolescent Counseling to ensure that clinical sites provide our students with the best clinical experience and supervision. This includes regular communication with the sites on student progress as well as addressing any concerns that arise. 
    3. Assist with maintaining records of students’ clinical experiences, practicum hours, and E-Value Data Base and/or Time-to-Track database
  • Faculty duties: 
    1. Teach a course load of 15 credits per year. Topics might include: Professional Issues & Ethics, Research Methods and Evaluation, Statistics, Thesis I, Thesis II, and Master’s level supervision courses (Practicum I, Practicum II, Internship).
    2. Teach, Chair, and Coordinate student thesis groups through classroom education and meeting individually with assigned thesis groups. 
    3. Serve on university committees as assigned.
    4. Mentor and advise students.
    5. Participate in undergraduate recruitment activities.
    6. Participate in departmental planning and assessment activities.
    7. Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:No supervisory responsibilities of other faculty/staff required. Supervision of clinical work of Master’s level Clinical Counseling Psychology students is required.

Work Hours:
30 hours per week. Hours may be extended to meet the needs of the department. Generally, Monday – Thursday with some day and some evening hours for courses taught in the evenings. Occasional Friday and weekend recruitment activities. Hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the department.

Environmental and Working Conditions/ Physical Demands and Aptitudes:For Faculty:
Mostly Sedentary work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment related to teaching. Prolonged periods sitting and standing. worker is required to have close visual acuity to grade papers, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
