Brenau University Inc is Hiring a Graphic Design Intern: Office of Communications Near Gainesville, GA

PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS: Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Random background checks are performed. Credit checks may be performed on candidates/employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) may be performed during the hiring process, or as part of a random check. MVR checks are required to meet insurance requirements for those employees operating a university vehicle or participating in any driving activity on behalf of Brenau University, (including operating a golf cart, rented vehicle or one’s personal vehicle). Employees who travel must be at least 25 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. All employees who operate university vehicles, who are employed in a sensitive position, or who travel regularly as part of their job responsibilities may be subject to post-hire drug screening and random drug-screening. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required

  • Current sophomore, junior or senior student at Brenau University in a degree program associated with the Center for the Arts & Design 
  • Must have completed at least one college-level graphic design course 
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including: Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills 
  • Experience creating a variety of graphics (See portfolio submission requirements below.) 
  • The ability to use conceptual thinking in the design process 
  • Must have enthusiasm for the design process and the ability to accept critiques and make necessary adjustments to designs as requested 
  • Punctuality and the ability to manage multiple deadline projects with thoroughness and attentiveness

Desired

  • Some experience in print or design industry a plus 
  • Familiarity with digital and offset printing processes 
  • Experience with Microsoft Word/Excel and/or Google Docs/Sheets

Responsibilities: 

  • Assists the Design Director and Office of Communications staff in the production of print and digital design layouts, including posters, flyers, brochures, invitations, event programs, web, email and social media graphics, and other university-branded marketing 
  • Collaborates with office staff and campus partners to support internal and external marketing and communications initiatives 
  • Adheres to Brenau branding and design standards, as well as university policies and procedures 
  • Supports department staff in other duties as needed, such as copy editing and proofing

Required Portfolio: 

Submit a portfolio of 10-15 graphic and digital examples of original works by the applicant. 

The successful applicant will show a combination of design examples. These examples might include, but are not limited to: 

  • logo design 
  • poster design 
  • magazine covers 
  • brochure or newsletters 
  • event programs 
  • blog and web design 
  • identity design 
  • package design 
  • 2D & 3D character development 
  • animation and motion graphics 
  • photography 
  • digital art 
  • other art-based media

As applicable, please indicate the software used to create the examples as part of the portfolio or in a separate design statement. The portfolio may be submitted by including a link to a web-based portfolio in the cover letter or my be submitted in a single PDF document uploaded to the ADP application site. 

Letters of Recommendation: 

Applicants are expected to provide a letter of recommendation by a Brenau University employee associated with the Center for the Arts & Design. This includes full- and part-time faculty in the departments of Art & Design and Interior Design, as well as full-time Brenau University Galleries staff. 

Environmental and Working Conditions:
 Normal environment found in an educational setting
Physical Demands and Aptitudes:
 Able to lift 5 pounds on a regular basis and 20 pounds maximum, periodically. 
Work Hours:
 6-8 hours per week between 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Hours may be extended to meet the needs of the department.

This position is an on-ground position in Gainesville, GA.
