BREC Recreation And Park Commission for the Parish... is Hiring a Natural Resource Trails Foreman Near Baton Rouge, LA

JOB
The Natural Resource Trail Foreman performs professional work within the Natural Resource Division including daily operations and maintenance of primitive and nature hiking trails. Responsible for building new and maintaining existing sustainable trails in coordination with park goals and overseeing associated construction projects utilizing a force of volunteers to assist with goals as appropriate.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Education Required: H. S. diploma is required.Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's degree. Area of Study (major) Preferred: Natural Resources, Forestry, Environmental Science, Wildlife Management, Construction Management, or closely related field Certification(s) Required: LA State Arborist Certified and LA State Pesticide General and Forestry Certified within 12 months of hire. First Aid and CPR/AED Certification within 30 days of hire.Preferred: Sustainable Trails Certification. Nationally Recognized Sawyer Training Certified, OSHA Skid steer/Bobcat Operator Certification. License(s) Required: Valid LA driver's license. Years Relevant Work Experience: Two (2) years related experience with at least 1 in a supervisory capacity.Preferred: Five (5) or more years related experience, at least 3 years full-time at BREC Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Working knowledge of tree trimming, removal, and arboriculture operations• Working knowledge of South Louisiana ecosystems.• Knowledge of sustainable trail design and maintenance.• Mechanical aptitude.• Ability to use proper tools and equipment to create and maintain sustainable trails including but not limited to chainsaws, bobcats, excavators, brush cutters.• Ability to read construction drawings and plan and oversee construction/installation of trail amenities such as bridges, turnpikes, and signage.• Ability to prioritize, inspect work and organize other workers.• Ability to train and develop staff on technical tasks and use of equipment.• Basic understanding of collecting GPS points in the field.• Basic computer software knowledge• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in the English language• Ability to work independently and communicate problems to direct supervisor.• Ability to direct volunteers and staff, and develop a positive, productive working relationships.• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relations with departmental staff and individuals from outside organizations.

Full-time position; schedule may vary within framework of 8 hours per day, 5 days per week; lunch break daily; Some evening and weekend hours as necessary; overtime as required.Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of a completed application.
