Breakwater School is Hiring a Remote Communications Coordinator

Communications Coordinator - Breakwater Learning - Portland, Maine

Breakwater seeks a part time Communications Coordinator to join our team starting in early August of
2023. This is a part time position supporting all of Breakwater Learning. Breakwater Learning consists of a
toddler-8th grade independent day school and an enrichment center offering youth afterschool, school
vacation, and summer camp programs. We provide a highly collegial and flexible environment in which we
seek to optimize the skills and interests of each employee.

Position Overview and Duties:

The Communications Coordinator leads the communication needs of both the Day School and
Enrichment Center. The individual will work closely with the Enrollment Director, Enrichment
Director, Development Director, and is overseen by one of our Executive Directors.

Duties include:

  • Publishing weekly digital all school news updates via ClassTag
  • Writing, editing, and publishing of a monthly school newsletter and monthly admissions
newsletter including a monthly blog post highlighting happenings in the day school
  • Writing, editing, and publishing of seasonal/periodic communications including but not

limited to development emails, staffing updates, summer camp catalog, enrichment center
registration openings and other communications as needed at the request of department
directors

  • Managing, updating, and writing content for the organization's websites ensuring the Day
School and Enrichment Center websites are accurate, engaging, and up to date. Updating
and managing the external Google calendar.
  • Managing, updating, and creating content for the social media accounts of Breakwater
Learning including Facebook and Instagram while highlighting a range of happenings in
both the Day School and Enrichment Center
  • Ordering logo materials for all organization departments (stickers, letterhead, envelopes,
tshirts, etc)
  • Support department directors to design and advertise community engagement events such as
Harvest Festival, end of year events, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned including supporting Day School recess or lunch coverage and events

Preferred qualifications and experience:

  • Degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 2-4 years of experience in the professional communications or marketing field
  • Experience working within a nonprofit, school, or youth programming organization preferred
  • Working knowledge of platforms such as Squarespace, MailBuild, ClassTag, Adobe Creative Suite,

Facebook, and/or Instagram preferred. Ability to work across and be proficient on multiple online
platforms is essential.

  • Strong writing and editing skills. Ability to write in a consistent ‘voice’ for the organization
  • Experience with photo and video taking/ editing preferred
  • Highly organized, creative, professional, and flexible. Ability to carry out projects independently as

well as ability to collaborate with a larger administrative team
