Position Overview

The VP of Brand is a key member of Bread Alone’s leadership team, and is responsible for driving the commercial strategy of the wholesale bakery. The role involves overseeing sales, marketing, company communication, customer care, and design and branding. Now in our 40th year of baking, the role must at once manage ongoing commercial functions, while driving the brand into the coming decades of success. 

This is a new role for Bread Alone, and will have the opportunity to build out the existing team to catch up to and keep pace with the growth of the company. This role works collaboratively with the team of VPs that sets company strategy and drives annual objectives.

The role reports to the CEO.

Hours: This is a full-time in-person position. We strive to make schedules as manageable as possible to encourage and allow work-life balance.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead the customer care team to ensure outstanding service and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead the sales team to achieve annual sales goals as the bakery builds new production capacity
  • Guide the design and branding team, internal and external, in maintaining visually compelling and distinctive branding and marketing materials
  • Oversee marketing activity including brand, growth, and product marketing, both digital and in-store
  • Develop innovative new product packaging and ensure that existing packaging remains up to date with industry standards and regulations
  • Manage design direction for photography and graphic design across all needed branding and marketing applications 
  • Manage key digital assets and brand presence across them, including but not limited to web, google, facebook, instagram, and youtube.
  • Work with the branding team to ensure that regular, on-brand material is posted to key digital platforms, in particular instagram, facebook, and mailchimp.
  • Continually seek out branding and marketing innovation, ensuring that a timeless brand presence is maintained as times continue to change
  • Embrace best-in-class AI tools to accelerate productivity and maintain relevant skills for self and team
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as production and finance, to align commercial strategies with operational capabilities and financial objectives.
  • Direct appropriate company-wide communication to ensure consistent messaging and brand representation.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities.
  • Analyze food industry trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities and challenges and help inform bakery R&D and innovation.
  • Work collaboratively with VP team to set company strategy and annual goals, and to drive results
  • Assist with selection and implementation of IT solutions across business as appropriate
  • Attend trade shows, visit other businesses, and review appropriate periodicals to bring the best ideas back to Bread Alone
  • Identify appropriate training and professional development opportunities for self, retail managers and associates
  • Act with integrity, honesty, knowledge and professionalism to promote the culture, values and mission of Bread Alone

 Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years branding, marketing, and/or sales experience in food industry
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence, and executive presence
  • Ability to own performance and results for self and team
  • Significant experience working with internal controls and compliance
  • Hands-on design and branding experience required
  • IT management experience preferred
  • Approachable with effective coaching skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to listen, learn and distill consistent brand language and aesthetics
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Respect for and comfort with a diverse and inclusive workplace
  • Willing to follow all safety guidelines set out by Bread Alone
  • The Bakery is open 365 days a year and team members must be willing to work consistently throughout the year which includes holidays and weekends

Job Type: Full-time, exempt

Compensation:

Bread Alone is deeply committed to ethically balancing the demands of the business and providing a living wage to all those who contribute to our success. Pay range for this position is $128,000 to $178,000 per year.

  • Paid Time Off: We respect work-life balance. PTO is front-loaded based on an employee's anniversary.
  • Wellness Time: During the first year of employment wellness time for hourly employees is accrued at 1 hour per 30 hours worked totaling a yearly amount of 56 hours. For salaried managers, the time is front-loaded upon hire date. Unused time is paid out on the employee’s one year anniversary.
