Position Summary: Performs nursing duties as required by physician in

all surgeries performed in hospital. This is a SAFETY SENSITIVE position.

The OR Circulator is an RN who performs within stated requirements or duties of circulating nurse.

• Assists with plan of care for cases.

• Assists with pre-operative assessment of patients.

• Explains all procedures clearly to patients.

• Assists with insuring required information is available on chart.

• Communicates all pertinent information concerning patient to CRNA or supervisor.

• Assists with transport of patient to and from OR in safe manner.

• Follows OR procedure for counting instruments, etc.

• Anticipates need of surgeon and scrub nurse.

• Reports symptoms, reactions and status of patient in an accurate and precise manner.

• Knowledge of aseptic technique.

• Charges correct supplies to patient.

• Responsible for correctly documenting operative record.

• Properly identifies and handles all tissue specimens.

• Has knowledge of operative procedures and equipment.

• Completes assignments without interference to quality of work.

• Makes decisions based on factual information and seeks guidance when necessary.

• Reports to supervisor any problems as equipment failure, low stock, needed supplies.

• Checks and restocks OR area and supplies as needed.

• Helps to maintain a neat, well organized and safe work area.

• Functions as needed in recovery room and central supply.

• Able to function in a calm manner during emergency and crisis situations.

Job Qualifications

Education/Licenses

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and possess a current Arkansas nursing license.

Knowledge of techniques in the operating room.

Must possess current CPR certification.

Must maintain ACLS certification.

Must reside within 30 minute radius of BCMC while on call.

Must be able to safely lift and physically assist with patient transfers.
