Job Title: Van Driver
Department/Level: Operations
Reports to: Club Director
Location: Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midland, Omaha NE
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 230pm to 6pm
Wage: Starting at $15/ hour
$500 for rehires (to receive after 90 days or after successful completion of their summer assignments)
$500 for new hires (to receive after 90 days or after successful completion of their summer assignments)

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands (BGCM), an affiliate with Boys & Girls Clubs of America is a comprehensive out-of-school provider designed to support the most vulnerable youth in the Midlands. Position Summary:
The Van Driver was established for the purpose of transporting members over scheduled routes and/or to/from schools and special excursions in a club vehicle; ensuring vehicle operation is in a safe operating condition; ensuring safety of members during transport, loading and unloading from vans; and assisting with routine club deliveries.
Essential Functions:
  • Assists members and other passengers (seating chart – restraints – special equipment, etc.) for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from the vehicles including both emergency situations and normal transport
  • Attends meetings, trainings. for the purpose of maintaining skills and club and State requirements
  • Fuels and washes assigned vehicle for the purpose of maintaining vehicle in a safe & clean operating condition
  • Communicates with Club Director for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information
  • Escorts members across the street for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of members
  • Drives club vehicles for the purpose of transporting regular after school routes to the club and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner
  • Inspects vehicle and reports safety hazards and maintenance needs to Club Director
  • Completes driver/vehicle checklist. Performs pre and post trip inspections to ensure the safe operating condition of the vehicle
  • While driving practices safe driving by adhering to speed limits and local traffic regulations
  • Maintains order and discipline of club members. Serves as role model for youth
  • Passenger Safety: Communicates to passengers' safety rules and expected behavior during travel. Insures passenger numbers do not exceed available seats. Observes passengers and enforces safety rules entering/leaving the van
  • Prepares documentation (daily mileage, van condition report, incident/accident reports, inspection, disciplinary and positive behavior reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information
  • Monitors all members during transit for the purpose of maintaining order and ensuring the safety of passengers
  • Reviews organization's transportation policy and procedure
  • Performs first aid as necessary for the purpose of meeting the immediate health care needs of members
  • Also, any and all other duties may be assigned
Qualifications:

  • Must have flexibility to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific; defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes
  • Must be able to work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment
  • Problem solving is required to analyze data and issues and create action plans
  • Must exercise good judgement; working without close supervision
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and project management abilities, attention to detail, and promptness
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and organize or prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of the mission, vision, values, core beliefs, objectives, policies, programs, procedures, principles, and practices of non-profit organizations, youth development services preferred
  • Experience working with and demonstrating compassion and/or sensitivity toward vulnerable populations and individuals with diverse backgrounds present in the organization’s service population, both individually and in groups
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies
  • Must be of flawless integrity & be able to fully embody our organizational Core Values
Required
  • High School Education or GED
  • Must be age 25
  • Combined experience and/or formal training equivalent to a minimum of three years driving a van or minibus to transport passengers preferably in a city or urban environment
  • Able to read and interpret written information
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
  • Ability to assist in program areas by giving and following instructions and supervising members in a safe environment
  • Must be able to perform basic math; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems
  • Must be familiar with pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; routes; first aid; two-way radio and/or cell phone communications; utilizing wheelchairs; tie downs, child safety seats, and general safety practices and procedures
  • Must be able to effectively navigate and function within a virtual environment
  • Required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill – based competencies required to satisfactory perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; administering first aid; and operating vans and related equipment
  • Must be proficient in the use of Windows, Internet, Microsoft Suite (Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access or other database software proficiency), Zoom or other Virtual Meeting platforms, and Google Platform (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides)
  • Ability to earn and maintain mandatory CPR & First aid certification
  • Safe driving record as documented by a clean three - year MVR
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet eligibility requirements to drive a BGCM vehicle
  • Must be able to pass a drug test, criminal and driving records investigation
  • The ability to read and write is necessary to complete reports and properly document program and organizational data
  • Must have reliable transportation to get to sites or meetings
  • Must have regular and reliable attendance
