Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands is Hiring a Lifeguard Near Omaha, NE

Job Title: Lifeguard
Reports to: Club Director
Location: Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands, Bryan Middle, 8210 S 42nd Street, Omaha, NE 68147
Schedule: PT, Monday thru Friday
Wage: Starting at $15/ hour

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands (BGCM), an affiliate with Boys & Girls Clubs of America is a comprehensive out-of-school provider designed to support the most vulnerable youth in the Midlands. We have a vision to provide a world-class Club Experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who enters our doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living healthy lifestyles.
Position Summary:
Develops and delivers Camp Nakomis and Boys & Girls Club aquatic programs and services, as planned by the Camp Director and Club Director, in ways consistent with the organization’s youth development mission.
Essential Functions:
  • Provide guidance and discipline to club members and camp participants in an aquatic environment
  • Practice and retain and be able to perform skills for your Lifeguard, CPR, AED, and First Aid certification
  • Be able to perform weekly in-service skills related to patron and pool safety
  • Perform water chemistry testing
  • Perform daily and weekly pool cleaning duties including: cleaning of pump strainer basket, skimmer baskets alongside pool, slide, pump room and chemical room
  • Vacuum pool on a daily basis
  • Maintain consistent water chemistry; will work in conjunction with Certified Pool Operator
  • Inventory Chemicals on Hand
  • Monitor pool computer (prominent) effectively
  • Clean pool side restrooms on a regular basis throughout the day and at the end of each day
  • Provide effective surveillance for patrons in and out of the water
  • Sit, stand, stroll to provide vigilant scanning
  • Supervise campers and club members along with program specialists and camp counselors during transition times
  • Check all lifesaving equipment as needed. This is including tube, whistle, first aid kit and pocket mask
  • Recognize campers and members for their achievements in the aquatic area
  • Ensure deep water tests are given and those passed are marked accordingly
  • Communicate with all staff so that kids are swimming safely and in the designated areas
  • Must follow the rules at all times as safety is paramount
  • Conduct an awareness of pool safety before each swim to staff and members/campers
  • Be sure that rules are enforced with all pool patrons
  • Be sure that you are mentally and physically well each day to perform your best on the job
  • Safety is paramount and all rules must be adhered to at all times
  • Positions camp staff as needed to provided supervision of those in the pool
  • Other duties may be assigned
Qualifications:
Recommended:
  • Previous lifeguard/aquatic experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and internal/external customer service skills
  • Must know how to familiarize yourself and other individuals with the best practices
  • Knowledge of the mission, vision, values, core beliefs, objectives, policies, programs, procedures, principles, and practices of non-profit organizations, youth development services preferred
  • Experience working with and demonstrating compassion and/or sensitivity toward vulnerable populations and individuals with diverse backgrounds present in the organization’s service population, both individually and in groups
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies
  • Must be of flawless integrity & be able to fully embody our organizational Core Values
Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum one year of experience
  • Must understand lifeguard standard of protocol and have current lifeguard certification
  • Must have awareness of what to do and readiness to act in case of an emergency
  • Must be able to effectively navigate and function within a virtual environment
  • Must be proficient in the use of Windows, Internet, Microsoft Suite (Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access or other database software proficiency), Zoom or other Virtual Meeting platforms, and Google Platform (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides)
  • Ability to earn and maintain mandatory CPR & First aid certification or obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet eligibility requirements to drive a BGCM vehicle
  • Must be able to pass a drug test, criminal and driving records investigation
  • The ability to read and write is necessary to complete reports and properly document program and organizational data
  • Must have reliable transportation to get to sites or meetings
  • Must have regular and reliable attendance
