Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine is Hiring a Bridge to Success (BTS) Coordinator Near Portland, ME

Title and Dept: Bridge to Success (BTS) Coordinator – Program
Location: Portland Clubhouse

Position Summary:

Our goal is to ensure that every member graduates from high school on-time with a plan for their future; whether moving on to community college, the trades, or a 4-year college or university. Bridge to Success is a transformational program that will scale our historical work for juniors and seniors and ensure they succeed in transitioning from high school to becoming active, thriving members in our communities.

The BTS Coordinator will be focused on implementing systems to support our members as they explore, select, and succeed in their chosen college or career pathway. Working with the Senior Program Director, Community Partnership Coordinator, Social Recreation Coordinator and Program Assistants, this individual will identify member interests, connect them to community opportunities and deliver daily Bridge to Success programming to engage all members, middle to high, in college and career exploration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify pathways for the various future goals that members and alumni (ie: 2 year college, 4 year college, trade school certification, direct to workforce, etc.).
  • Work closely with Social Recreation Coordinator to seamlessly weave programming together to provide a broad spectrum of opportunities to members 7th – 12th grades.
  • Collaborate with Community Partnership Coordinator to plan and execute BTS events (ie: job shadowing, job fairs, internships, members only events) to members and alumni population.
  • Serve as an advisor for BGCA programs such as Youth of the Year, Keystone and TransferVR.
  • Acting as a mentor, assist with future planning tasks such as college applications, college essays, class scheduling, accessing services, contacting professors or advisors, time management and more.
  • Promote scholarship opportunities to the members and alumni population utilizing multiple different forms of communication and reminders.
  • Communicate with schools and school counselors about our scholarship opportunities.
  • Ensure program areas are safe and that equipment is in good working condition.
  • Actively contributes to building/maintaining a diverse, equitable, and inclusive organizational culture.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or other related field from an accredited college or university OR 2-3 years equivalent work experience with under-served students and families.
  • Strong desire to create and run impactful and intentional teen programs.
  • Experience supervising youth and teens in an education program setting.
  • Working knowledge of college and workforce readiness resources.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record.; Able to drive a 12-person passenger van.
  • 5 years work experience at Boys & Girls Club, YMCA or other related, preferred
  • Non-profit experience, preferred

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong Leadership skills with a desire to mentor secondary (high) school-aged children;
  • Ability to adapt to their developmental needs.
  • Goal-oriented, with strong initiative and creative problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others and build relationships across teams and with community partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Strong achievement orientation with exceptional time management skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task.
  • Technology fluid; willing to stay abreast of new platforms.
  • Flexible and willing to contribute, when necessary, on projects outside of own department
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Compensation and benefits:

  • Full Time, non-exempt - Hourly rate: $20-24 per hour
  • Monday-Friday 12p-8p (40hrs)
  • 17 (days) PTO and 5 (days) MEPL annually during the first 2 years; increases with length of service.
  • 12 Paid Holidays
  • Medical, Dental, Short Term/Long Term Disability and Life insurance within the first 60 days of employment
  • 401k with company match upon completion of eligibility requirements

Work Environment including physical requirements:

  • Office and educational/classroom environment
  • Must be able to traverse facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
  • Ability to drive 12-person passenger van.
