Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore is Hiring a Youth Development Coordinator (Teacher) - Laurel Woods Near Laurel, MD
Required: Certified Teacher
Days: Monday through Friday (Seasonal Summer Camp) Hours: 35hrs/week (between 8:30am - 3:30pm) $25 - $30/hr. Position Summary: The Youth Development Coordinator – Education Support is responsible for creating a positive personal learning experience for members by teaching program materials. Using the program materials, the teacher creates balanced and robust learning experiences for members complimented with Boys & Girls Club Education programs. The teacher evaluates member progress on each assignment, communicates this progress, and works with Club staff to ensure learning is personal for each member. Responsibilities:
Program Development:
Prepares for each instructional session; Gathers and prepares materials as appropriate
Greets members and initiates instruction to personally engage each student
Instructs members according to the design of the Summer Brain Grain and Boys & Girls Club programs
Manages members, tasks and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session
Evaluates and records the progress of each student on their program assignment
Uses praise and encouragement to ensure members are engaged and inspired to learn
Motivates members with Boys & Girls Club incentives given for specific achievements according to the instructional management standards
Records and tracks tokens and incentives earned by members
Manages the conclusion of each instructional session and completion of program evaluation sheet; Supports procedures to ensure student safety and well-being
Communicates specific student needs to Club Manager
Attends periodic staff meetings and completes ongoing training as needed
Completes certification training on each academic success program taught to members
Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for drop-in members and visitors.
Track member participation in assigned program areas, document results, and progress of members as needed.
Coordinate program activities in accordance with selected curricula that support program goals and incorporate the needs and interests of members.
Responsible for regularly gathering information and feedback from members about their program needs and interests.
Youth Development and Engagement:
Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of youth development.
Promote and stimulate program participation for preteens and teens.
Foster an environment that offers choices, incorporates team building, and promotes a sense of belonging and group identity for members.
Provide appropriate guidance and direction through supportive relations with members.
Provide quality education program activities and experiences that promote a sense of purpose and individual empowerment for members.
Supervision:
Understands and follows the BGCMB safety policies and procedures to include but not limited to conduct & supervision of members policies, employee to member policies, member safety polices, child abuse & neglect policies, member health policies, transportation & field trips policies, the club safety/contingency plan, and the procedures for reporting incidents/accidents during program hour.
Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly club staff meetings and striving to work as a team.
Education & Experience: Language Arts and Study Skills Program Teachers:
Four-year degree or equivalent required
State or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired)
Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred
Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred for reading teachers
Math Program Teachers:
Four-year degree required in a discipline requiring 3 or more years of college level math
SAT/ACT, Test Prep, and Advanced Reading Skills Teachers:
Four-year degree or equivalent preferred
Knowledge of tablet/ computers preferred
Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire members to learn
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible
Strong problem solving and customer service skills
