Description

The primary function of the Teen Futures Coordinator is to promote teen recruitment, retention, programs via internal Boys & Girls Clubs programs with a heavy focus in the area of college and career readiness in addition to external programs and partnerships. The key objective of this position is to ensure our community’s middle and high school students are provided an opportunity to experience BGCL programming delivered with fidelity, so they are prepared to pursue appropriate avenues of employment or secondary education upon graduation. The Teen Futures Coordinator delivers direct services and manages partnerships leading to post-secondary planning and placement; job and workforce readiness; leadership and character-building programs, events, and tours/trips. Creates content for programs and trains internal staff and partners. Develops goals and objectives for cross organizational programming. Tracks progress and implements changes to improve outcome success.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Major responsibilities include planning and implementation of teen recruitment, program engagement, and retention.
  • Continuously seek new opportunities that may contribute to the recruitment and retention of teens.
  • Ensures the successful transition of all Club members from middle school to high school to post-secondary education or work.
  • Provides early identification and enrollment of Club members along with average daily attendance for the retention of teens so that they may be able to encounter an optimal Club experience.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum and Community Partnership Coordinator to organize and regularly host activities and events such as: study skills workshops; college and career tours; financial aid presentations; effective written and oral communication skills; financial planning; and other programs and events.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum and Community Partnership Coordinator to develop and maintain relationships with businesses who wish to become hiring partners or instructional partners.
  • Establish relationships with parents, community leaders, and organizations that will serve to improve the future of young people.
  • Serves as the lead staff person for teen services including Career Launch, workforce readiness and work base learning including direct instruction and training of club staff to lead direct instruction.
  • Creates content and leads Career Launch, D2D, myfuture.net, Teen Voice, Youth for Unity, Lyricism 101, Keystone, Job and Career Readiness and Youth Employment Program, and UPS Road Code.
  • Work with staff to foster job skills training and evaluation for teens place in paid and volunteer positions both within and outside of the Club. 
  • Assists in program evaluation. Conducts informational meetings on a regularly scheduled basis to club staff, youth, and parents to recruit students into the College Bound Program and to promote understanding and value of having college and/or career plans upon graduation.
  • Serves as the lead staff person for multiple partnership driven programs and events including managing the partnership and insuring deliverables are met. Coordinates all aspects of partner driven workshops and events.
  • Recruit and select teen members for partnerships and collaborations that provide leadership opportunities, employment opportunities and scholarships.
  • Provide guidance and role-modeling to teen members.
  • Responsible for facilitating small group sessions with teen members guiding, coaching, and role modeling to help them resolve problems and conflicts.
  • Provide effective assistance to teen members in decision-making skills.
  • In collaboration with the Workforce Readiness Specialist, serves as the organization lead in one or more:
    • Workforce Development Internships
    • College or Career Related Trips and Tours
    • College or Career Related Events
    • College and/or Career Outside Opportunities
    • Testing Preparation Courses and Practice Tests
    • Scholarship Awards, Requests and Disbursements
    • Partnerships related to online programs and/or resources
    • Partnerships and programs related to hard skill development
    • University program partnerships
    • Pilot programs
  • Secures resources and facilitators to prepare targeted youth to take and pass tests or achieve minimum scores required (i.e., SAT, ACT, GHSGT) to enter colleges and universities. Counsels with targeted youth (especially graduating seniors) and their families in planning for higher education including college admission, financial aid and testing, military enlistment, and/or workforce entry.
  • Keeps accurate and up-to-date reports and database on participants, members and beneficiaries of programs and prepares monthly status reports for the lead or manager.
  • Keeps accurate and up-to-date reports and database on participants, members and beneficiaries of programs including attendance and information requirements for other departments.
  • Collaborates with youth development agencies and professional groups to foster educational opportunities for club high school youth. Performs administrative work to support responsibilities.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required or as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in a related field of study.

Experience

  • Three or more (3 ) years related work experience in the field of youth development and/or college access programs preferred
  • Previous experience with Boys and Girls Clubs strongly desired

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent people skills required to work effectively with youth, parents, staff, and volunteers
  • Ability to work independently as well as interdependently on multiple programs and events simultaneously
  • Ability to write content for workshops and partnerships
  • Ability to communicate with members, parents, and professionals within and outside the organization
  • Ability to manage partnerships including direct and indirect supervision of those delivering content
  • Must be effective at promoting, training & evaluating youth programs
  • Ability to lead staff in planning day-to-day activities & programs
  • Proficient in use of PC & Microsoft Office
  • Ability to maintain and manipulate data using a database
  • Ability to evaluate, modify and implement college programs for teens

ENVIRONMENT & WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal internal office environment. Daily phone communication with & frequent travel to Middle and High School locations; travel to institutions of higher education, meetings with workforce development partners, occasional overnight and/or multi-day travel with teens. Frequent evening and occasional weekend work.

Demonstrated ability to maintain a high-energy level, be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities, speak clearly and hear. Ability to always have a good relationship with diverse personalities while displaying tact, maturity, and flexibility.
