Opportunity Overview: SE NETWORK COMMUNITY SAFETY SPECIALIST
The mission of Boys and Girls Club of King County is to, inspire and enable young people who need us the most, to realize their full potential as a productive, responsible, and caring citizen. We have traditional BGCKC core programming that focuses on the following three impact areas: 1) Academic Success, 2) Good Character and Citizenship and 3) Healthy Lifestyles. However, we recognize that some youth need specialized, non-traditional programming to reach their full potential in these three impact areas. Therefore, we created the SE Network/SafetyNet collaboration with community partners to provide a SafetyNet of specialized targeted programming that works to buffer the consequences of the many risk factors that pull our youth away from Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship and Healthy Lifestyles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a Community Safety Specialist Lead this position will work closely with the SYVPI-SE Network Coordination Team to work with SE Network Director, Safe Passage Committee, Rainier Beach Campus Safety Team and Seattle Public Schools (Rainier Beach HS, South Lake HS, South Shore K-8 & Dunlap ES) to assist with implementation of Rainier Beach Campus Safe Passage (RBCSP) Project Monitor designated “safety zones” that students/youth walk to and from school. Provide supervision and safe transition for students/youth from school to next destination- home, bus stop/light rail, after school activity and/or program. Provide leadership as on-scene command for Safe Passage Team following Standard Operating Procedure/Safe Passage Protocol. Facilitate all team briefing/debriefing meetings including all documentation.

Manage the following on-site operational tasks:
 • Ensure all Community Safety Specialists are on time to assigned shift
 • Ensure all Community Safety Specialists are completing accurate time sheets daily
 • Ensure all equipment (walkie-talkies , ear pieces, Ion speaker, etc.) is charged and ready for use daily
 • Do equipment check/test before deployment
 • Deploy Teams to assigned Safety Zones
 • Ensure that all Incident Reports are complete
 • Provide communication daily to SE Network Director regarding any incidents and/or any staffing issues

WORK WITH SYVPI-SE NETWORK COORDINATION TEAM TO: 
 • Assist with the following for RBCSP Project
 • Assist SE Network Director and Safe Passage Committee with communication and implementation of Safe Passage Awareness Campaign and Safe Passage Project
 • Staff street corners and be visible presence along Safe Passage corridors at assigned “safety zones” during after school hours
 • Monitor designated “safety zone” to ensure students/youth safely transition from school to next destination- home, bus stop/light rail, after school activity and/or program.
 • Communicate with Safe Passage teammates, Schools, Community Center, and Library security/safety staff and police to report crime or suspicious activity (Cell phone & 2-way radio)
 • Share information on local youth activities and resources and encourage youth participation in safe prosocial activities
 • Provide positive interaction and engagement with students/youth and community members
 • Assist with engaging local businesses to partner with Safe Passage program and provide incentives to share with to encourage pro-social engagement
 • Attend and participate in mandatory Safe Passage training and debriefs/meetings coordinated by SE Network Director
 • Perform other duties and/or tasks as assigned by SE Network Director

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Must have High School Diploma or GED Equivalency
 • Must have knowledge and experience working with gang-involved or -affiliated youth
 • Knowledgeable (or preferably a member) of the community
 • Able to demonstrate an ability to build relationships with youth and de-escalate conflicts
 • Consistent track record for being reliable and on time
 • Able to physically stand for long periods of time and tolerate all weather conditions
 • Able to read and write incident reports
 • Good attention to detail, professional presence, strong customer relations skills and ability to maintain strict confidentiality
 • Understanding of youth development principles, ability to motivate youth in a positive way
 • Self-motivated and able to work with others on a team and independently with little supervision
 • Successful completion of National Criminal History Background check
 • Must have problem-solving/conflict-resolution skills
 • Must be a passionate servant leader with a strong sense of calling to the field of intervention in addition to insights and understanding of the unique challenges our youth face in the SE Seattle community, these include community/school/family dynamics, risk factors and protective factors
 • Ensure member confidentiality during and after employment: which includes, but not limited to membership data, and school data and other information obtained

HOURS: Regular Full-time, 40 hours per week

PAY RATE: $25.00/hr
FLSA: Non-Exempt
