Boys & Girls Club of Portage County is Hiring a Junior Staff - Summer 2024 Near Stevens, WI

Position Summary: The Junior Staff Coordinator will serve as a mentor and leader to minor employees (i.e., Junior Staff) who are hired as part of our YouthForce program. They will help these minor workers learn about and practice skills related to the workplace environment, employer expectations, and general professionalism. The Junior Staff Coordinator will strive to boost the confidence and employability of Junior Staff through career readiness, workforce development, and increased responsibility.

Responsibilities:
Meet regularly with Junior staff to discuss accomplishments, answer questions, and foster professional development
Assist in goal setting by teaching SMART goal setting and creating personalized goals with Junior Staff that can be reviewed and measured
Review directives as they relate to organizational and program outcomes
Complete all grant documentation and requirements to ensure success and continuation of BGCPC’s YouthForce program
Communicate with Site leadership regularly to address any issues or concerns promptly and professionally
Adhere to all minor worker guidelines and laws
Ensure Junior Staff have an understanding of their limitations, rights, and responsibilities as minor workers
Assist with career planning/college readiness by actively listening to Junior Staffs’ goals and expectations of the future and creating realistic plans for achievement
Learn each Junior Staff’s strengths and weaknesses and teach them how to recognize their own so they can foster their personal continual improvement
Schedule Junior Staff shifts in conjunction with Site Coordinator or Director’s needs
Teach professionalism and workplace etiquette including but not limited to appearance, adherence to guidelines, and work/life balance
Teach workplace stress management techniques to help Junior Staff cope with the many stressors that may occur on the job
Assist in the formal required training of Junior Staff as outlined by BGCA
Ensure all Junior Staff complete onboarding/offboarding requirements in a timely fashion
Plan and implement workforce skill coaching sessions
Assist in the recruitment and planning of Career Camps
Assist in the recruitment of Junior Staff by working with key middle school and high school stakeholders
Serve as a Junior Staff ambassador by observing their progress to provide input on promotions or improvement plans
Serve as a general support person for Junior Staffs’ professional and personal growth
Additional duties as assigned

Position Summary
Junior Staff assist Club staff by helping implement activities, supervise youth, serve as good role model, guide youth member behavior, and cleaning duties. Additionally, Junior Staff receive support to develop workforce development skills; including, but not limited to, time management, customer service, professionalism, and other employability skills. T
Primary Duties for Junior Staff
  • Help ensure a safe, productive, and meaningful Club environment for youth members.
  • Develop meaningful, safe, and positive relationships with all youth and parents.
  • Provide guidance and serve as a positive role model to Club members.
  • Promote youth activity participation and lead “on-the-spot” activities as needed.
  • Continually monitor and supervise Club members to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
  • Assist Program Leaders to ensure discipline policies are enforced during each program.
  • Track participation numbers for each activity.
  • Assist with daily/weekly cleaning schedule.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and improve workforce-readiness skills.
  • Maintain a clean and properly equipped program area plus assist with daily cleaning duties.
  • Arrive on time according to the staff schedule and be prepared to work.
  • Follow dress code requirements for position.
  • Display responsibility and professionalism inside and outside of the Club.
Additional Responsibilities
May participate in special programs or events, attend field trips, participate in First Aid/CPR training, or other professional development trainings and certifications as necessary. Must also be able to pass a reference and background check prior to employment.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
  • Standing or walking for up to 8 hours a day
  • Pushing or lifting of up to 50lbs
  • Ability to handle high noise levels for extended periods of time
  • Travel between sites is required
