Position Purpose

The Education Coordinator has general responsibility for programs that support members’ success in school and directly reports to the Education Director. They will plan, organize, direct, and control the program and maintenance of programs related to homework completion, tutoring, and academic mentoring within the policies of the organization. The Education Coordinator assumes accountability for the results in achieving the outlined goals and objectives of the Education Program.

This position is part-time (25 hours weekly during the school year; 40 hours weekly during Summer programming) supporting our Mission Clubhouse.

Key Responsibilities

Education Department Duties – 75%

  • Plan, organize and conduct educational programs, including tutoring, PSAT and SAT preparation, homework completion, and academic mentorship programs.
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to get new youth to participate in the education program while focusing on youth who need it most.
  • Establish relationships with SFUSD and serve as a liaison and educational advocate for youth members at their schools.
  • Promote and stimulate membership in the department ensuring that every Club member participates in some Learning Center activities. 
  • Build a culture where all youth understand the importance of completing high school and developing a career path that strongly encourages college enrollment.
  • Ensure homework completion programs are conducted at a high level in all departments.
  • Provide coaching, resources and support as needed.
  • Ensure youth who need it most are enrolled in on-site tutoring and academic mentorship programs.

Day to Day Duties – 25%

  • Track member participation and progress in academic programs.
  • Support the Education Director in maintaining academic portfolios for each core member, that includes various sources of data indicative of members’ academic progress. This includes report cards, youth surveys/interviews, work samples, reports from teachers/parents, etc.
  • Attend all meetings, conferences and training as required, assist with any fundraising projects conducted by the Club and assist with all Club-wide special events.
  • At all times maintain a professional appearance and manner reflective of the high standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco.

Requirements

Required Skills

  • Experience working with youth in a recreational program.
  • Ability to develop and implement organized recreational programs and services.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Red Cross first aid/CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license and be able to operate a 12 passenger vehicle.

Preferred Skills

  • Equipment and property accountability skills.
  • Record keeping skills.
  • BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university preferred or related work experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours consecutively.
  • Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time.

Pay

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs. At BGCSF, our decisions are based on other factors and dependant on circumstances for each position. Depending on the need and requirement of the position, an individual could be hired at or near the entry level, mid - level or top of the range for their role and compensation. As such, a reasonable estimate of the current range is $20-$22 per hour.
