Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito's Center for a Healthy Lifestyle (CHL) is looking for a part-time Pottery Instructor to teach kids about the fundamentals of ceramics.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • This job is only available for a limited time during the summer during the month of July.
  • You'll work Monday to Friday, either in the morning from 8:30 am to 12 pm or in the afternoon from 12 pm to 3:30 pm.
  • This is an IN-PERSON job, so we're only considering candidates who live nearby.

Here are more specifics about the job and what we're looking for:

Under the supervision of the CHL Supervisor, the CHL Pottery Instructor will use their personal expertise and resources from the CHL to teach youth ages 5-12 about ceramics including techniques, safety, and creative approaches to pottery. Each class will be 2-3 hours long with an additional 1 hour required of the CHL Cooking Instructor to setup prior to the class and then cleanup afterwards.

Major Duties and Responsibilities- Key Roles:

  • Reliable, communicative and upbeat can do personality.
  • Thrive leading a group setting.
  • Able to supervise a group of 4-6 children.
  • Instruct students about safety in the pottery room.
  • Competent in using pottery wheel
  • Competent in glazing techniques and using a kiln
  • Able to plan a class curriculum
  • Able to maintain a clean work environment, engage children in cleaning and leave the space clean
  • Ensure a safe environment following club rules for checking children in and out of camp, bathroom breaks, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

· High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience

· Professional or amateur experience with ceramics and pottery

· Minimum of 1 year experience in supervising children.

· Must have or be able to obtain a valid CA driver’s license and insurable driving record.

· Must have the ability to travel to local branch sites.

· Must have or be available to obtain CPR and First Aid certification (will provide training).

· Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening, livescan fingerprinting, and background clearance.

Knowledge, skills and ability

· Reliable, communicative and upbeat can-do personality.

· Thrive leading a group setting, up to 6 children in a class.

· Be able to work with children and enjoy cooking and baking.

· Excellent written and verbal communications.

· Ability to prioritize, self-motivated, think creatively, and be adaptable and organized.

· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationship with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies.
