POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Teen Program Director
DEPARTMENT: Program
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Operations Director
TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE: School year Monday – Friday, Hours vary between 7am and 7pm
Summer Monday – Friday, Hours vary between 7:30am and 5:30pm
Occasional nights and weekends with proper notice
Primary Purpose
Under the supervision of the Teen Program Services Director, the Teen Program Director is responsible for the planning and implementation of high-level programs, services and activities that target BGCNN teenage membership at our Lancaster County Unit consistent with the organization’s youth development mission and goals, and developing positive, productive relationships with members across all program locations within the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck Territory.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensures that Teen staff members greet members upon arrival
  • Initiates, conducts, and evaluates programs and activities for 13 – 18 year old youth to include full scale, age-appropriate programs which include but are not limited to Career launch, Money Matter, Youth of the Year, Teen Talks, across all of the organization’s units. Makes program recommendations based on member and facility needs.
  • Ensure effective and timely communications regarding programming across the organization and coordinates with marketing as needed for public communication.
  • Collaborates with other community organizations and volunteers to provide a variety of opportunities.
  • Ensures that one main event is planned and conducted each month promoting prevention mechanisms and increasing awareness in core areas.
  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates YDPs assigned to the Teen Program.
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers including college interns to help with homework. 
  • Works with unit leadership to establish a positive, attractive, and safe club atmosphere.
  • Oversees the organization for recruitment of teens, 13–18-year-olds into the program. Actively promote participation. Assists the Marketing team with developing a marketing plan to recruit and retain teens.
  • Ensures that surveys are being conducted for members ages 13-18 and results are considered in planning and decision making. 
  • Develops Keystone Clubs to the highest levels of regional and national participation.

  • Ensures that Teen Staff develop positive, productive relationships with members and their parents.
  • Ensures that staff and teens have a since of caring for the facility and keep the program area neat, clean, and attractive for members.
  • Helps with homework and tutoring as needed.
  • Safely secures, maintains, and utilizes program materials/equipment in program areas.
  • Ensures a safe, healthy, and positive environment in the Teen Center as well as the drop-in center.
  • Follows established policies and procedures of the drop-in center.
  • Provides supportive services to employment program case managed youth and documents case managed youth activities
  • Identifies, recruits, and develops Youth of the Year candidates within each of the units.
  • Ensures equipment is in good condition. Notifies TPSD/OD when repairs are needed.
  • Utilize “active listening” skills in interacting with staff and members.
  • Behavior incidents and achievements are recorded and shared with TPSD/OD
  • Conduct national program as directed by TPSD/OD.
  • Leads and assists in scheduled teen staff meetings and training.
  • Attends all staff meetings.
  • All other duties as assigned. 
Other Occasional Responsibilities:
  • May occasionally oversee special programs and/or events, and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary.
  • May be required to drive Club van/mini-bus periodically to transport members.
CERTIFICATION/ASSOCIATION:
  • Must be able to be registered by our organization with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (www.mybgca.net).
  • Complete required assigned trainings.
  • Will be required to gain First Aid and CPR Certifications.
  • The ability to earn a valid CDL Driver’s License with Passenger & Air Brake Endorsement to assist in the transportation of members is strongly encouraged.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • A Associate’s degree and/or experience equivalent is preferred.
  • Demonstrated programming development and project management skills to meet the needs of youth.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and meet goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and supervise program staff
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous success in youth program development.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Must be able to perform duties which require prolonged standing, walking, talking, hearing, standing, sitting, bending for long periods of time. May occasionally be required to kneel, run and/or climb.
  • Must be able to use the telephone and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to lift, move, manipulate and or hold objects up to 25 pounds. Objects that exceed the 25-pound weight limit require additional assistance when moving, lifting, or manipulating.
