POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Custodian
DEPARTMENT: Support Services
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Support Services
TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, Hours vary between 7 am and 10 pm
Occasional nights and weekends with proper notice
Primary Purpose
Supporting our Club Youth Development Professionals by maintaining a clean and safe working environment for all staff, members, visitors, and vendors.
Our Club Support team helps us to focus on our mission and positive youth development outcomes opening the door to new worlds and possibilities for kids and communities across the Northern Neck. Responsibilities:
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on all equipment necessary.
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms.
  • Clean, mop, wash, scrub, wax, polish, buff, and vacuum the floor using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines.
  • Empty trash receptacles.
  • Clean and polish fixtures.
  • Removes recycling materials.
  • Manage inventory of supplies necessary to perform the job.
  • Sometimes using ladders, dust and wash walls, clean ceilings and windows, and dust and polish light fixtures.
  • Clean windows.
  • Dust furniture.
  • Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, and equipment to clean areas as well as during office moves and events.
  • Remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material, hazards, or unsafe conditions and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
  • Attendance of all staff/agency meetings, as required.
  • Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
CERTIFICATION/ASSOCIATION:
  • Must be registered with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (www.mybgca.net).
  • Complete required assigned training.
  • Will be required to gain First Aid and CPR Certifications.
  • The ability to earn a valid CDL Driver’s License with Passenger & Air Brake Endorsement to assist in the transportation of members is strongly encouraged.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, procedure manuals, and operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Able to comprehend, retain, and follow oral and written instructions, exercise good judgment, set priorities, listen, problem solve, and make decisions.
  • Ability to operate and maintain specialty cleaning equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to positively interact with staff, members, parents, visitors, vendors, etc.
  • Must be able to work with limited to no supervision.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Must be able to perform duties that require walking, talking, hearing, standing, sitting, and bending for long periods of time. May occasionally be required to kneel, run, and/or climb.
  • Must be able to use the telephone and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to lift, move, manipulate, and or hold objects up to 25 pounds. Objects that exceed the 25-pound weight limit require additional assistance when moving, lifting, or manipulating.
