Summary - Urgent Care Receptionist:

BMC is currently seeking a PRN Urgent Care Receptionist to join our team. This position is PRN, working working based on department need.

Job Duties - Urgent Care Receptionist:

  • Initiates triage processes with every patient. Seeks to determine severity of illness or injury. Reconciles the appearance of the patient with the complaint they present. Completes the Triage Form based on answers to questions. Forwards triage form and patient to the care of a nurse.
  • Communicates to patients in the waiting room the anticipated effect of their condition on the wait time to be seen. Helps to arrange transportation for patients, as needed.
  • Offers comfort items as needed such as ice, blankets, emesis basins, etc.
  • Maintains awareness of and is open to the sudden development of an emergency in any given patient situation.
  • Greets and screens patients, determines patient’s needs. Explains the check-in method for appointments. Answers patient inquires regarding account status, credit policies and procedures.
  • Explains wait times to patients for Urgent Care. Estimates the wait time based on the number of patients in the queue and the severity of cases already in exam rooms. Maintains an open line of communication with the nurses and providers regarding delays in schedules.
  • Answers the telephone promptly by the third ring and follows established guidelines. Screens all calls in a friendly, efficient manner.
  • Opens and closes phones per BMC protocol.
  • Respects patient confidentiality.
  • Remains calm under pressure. Maintains a sense of humor. Deals with patients and their families in person and on the phone with tact and confidence.
  • Exhibits a professional and friendly demeanor. Is informative to patients and staff.
  • Utilizes other personnel’s knowledge in order to provide excellent customer service.
Required Experience:


Skills and Abilities:

  • Must use good judgment and discretion in greeting and screening patients and in obtaining personal information required for patient’s medical record, credit history, and triaging.
  • Must possess strong proficiency with computers and aptitude for thoroughness, accuracy and detail. Cooperates with supervisor and other staff to complete daily tasks. Ability to prioritize and attend to several tasks simultaneously. Must possess strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both individually and collaboratively. Experience working on teams, strongly preferred.
  • Must be able remain calm under pressure and confident in a stressful environment.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Course in Medical Terminology; preferred.

Previous Experience:

  • 6 months - 1 year work experience involving public contact or equivalent background.
  • Prefer computer experience.
  • Knowledge of basic insurance practices, preferred.
  • Previous work experience in an Urgent Care setting, highly desired.

Initial on the job training: 1 month

Salary Range: $17.36-$22.57; Depending on experience
