Summary Description:

The primary responsibility of the Irrigation Manager is to perform and oversee scheduling, installation, maintenance, and repair of landscape irrigation systems, providing effective communication and tracking consistent with company mission and policies. A procedural approach to managing the department must be employed using modern management principles. Due to the nature of this position, working outside of regular business hours including weekends and holidays may be needed at times.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

1. Lead by example using a hands-on approach to management and an open-door policy. Supply structure each day for Irrigation Technician(s), setting up an effective flow of communication to ensure best use of labor and materials.
2. Coach and counsel team members privately and promptly; Ensure all disciplinary issues are documented as per company standards and communicated to the GM, & Exterior Manager.
3. Develop close working relationships with management/staff of other departments, supplying support and prompt communication to help excellent customer service.
4. Manage/oversee processes of hiring, training, promoting, reviewing, and disciplining department staff. Implement/support necessary record keeping program consistent with company-wide policies and standards.
5. Is aware of and upholds company policy and supports the Exterior Department Quality Standards.
6. Facilitate positive, prompt, and proper communication among co-workers and with supervisors striving for clarity and for alleviation of any tensions. Respond to employee and customer concerns, partnering with the GM, Exterior Manager, and other members of management as to ensure prompt communication and follow-through.
7. Create, manage, and continuously improve the Companys daily and weekly service schedules, emergency service calls and records of controller zone schedules to maximize efficiency for the irrigation team.
8. Establish and maintain the Companys electronic Irrigation Work Order Forms, Service Repair Forms, Irrigation Maps, Irrigation Zone Charts, and Irrigation Zone Descriptions.
9. Evaluate service and repair needs during site visits; making service and repair recommendations to customers as needed.
10. Prepare and deliver estimates and proposals to customers for review and approval.
11. Ensure customer are satisfied through effective communication, follow-up, and relationship-building though regular site visits and meetings.
12. Manage budget standards for each customer location; ensure profitability standards are met within customer expectations. Execute billing of completed work by working with Accounts Receivable upon a jobs completion.
13. Responsible for gathering and updating historical data for each account regarding water sources, point of connection and mainline location, location and type of controller, and access information (codes, keys, contacts necessary for access).
14. Design and install new or renovated irrigation systems, including electric and SVC controller
installations, and ensure they function properly and efficiently.
15. Create and implement a water conservation program to maximize capacity and efficiency.
16. Pull and fit piping for irrigation systems as needed. Set sprinkler heads and valve boxes; install and initialize clocks and timers. Locate and maintain existing zones, and valves.
17. Perform and oversee irrigation activations, controller scheduling, repairs, and winterizations.
18. Maintain a well-organized parts inventory and purchase parts as required; adhere to cost control standards.
19. Ensure work sites are restored to original condition, or better if necessary- without holes, exposed pipes or gravel, footprints in beds, exposed roots, or soil/debris on surrounding hardscape upon completion of work.
20. Work vehicle maintenance:
o Always keep a clean vehicle, ensuring interior and exterior cleanliness.
o Remove personal items from vehicles daily (lunchboxes, cell phones, garbage, etc.).
o Adhere to Company maintenance inspection policy.
o Report all accidents (regardless of nature and severity) at once.
21. Keep all tools and equipment organized and in good working order, whether stored in shop or in vehicle. Keep vehicle organized, regularly cleaning to keep a professional image.
22. Adhere to Company's safety policies and ensure public safety while in contact with crews and work sites. Provide ongoing safety-related training in keeping with company safety standards.
23. Continue own education by staying up to date on the latest industry trends and sharing relevant information with the team.

Self-starter. Ability to set priorities and keep to projected schedules.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage change effectively.
Intermediate computer skills: Comfortable and effective working in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to effectively support both electronic and written records keeping information organized.

Level Requirements

Bachelors degree or formal degree in related field. 5 plus years experience will be considered. A combination of education and experience will be evaluated for equivalency.
Minimum of two (2) years experience managing a team and a minimum of three (3) years irrigation service and installation experience serving multiple customer locations.
Verifiable experience reading landscape plans and as-builts.
Experience programming, monitoring and manipulating smart-controllers and electronic remote devices.
Must have a valid Washington State Drivers License and keep a clean driving record.
Knowledge of Rain Bird irrigation components and IQ management system or the ability to learn it.

The employee must often climb or balance; and bend, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must often lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Varied Field Environment performing outdoor work with moderate to occasional loud noise.
