Boston Medical Center is Hiring a Statistical Programmer - Hourly Near Boston, MA

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for performing statistical programming, analysis and large scale data. Works in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team, interacting with staff (physicians and social scientists), research assistants and other programmers to provide comprehensive data management / analysis support for a variety of projects and personnel. Will leads team of researchers and technical staff in planning, developing, and implementing solutions, provides progress reports and study results, maintains technical aspects of the project, suggesting and making modifications where necessary and ensures system is functioning properly at all times. Typical team projects include studies related to quality measurement, access to care, and health care reform.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Programming

  • Develops, codes, tests and supports systems. Makes changes per researchers requests, applies enhancements, adds new functionality, and provides regular maintenance to the system.
  • Organizes, maintains and manages data used in large research studies from multiple sources;
  • Independently designs analytical databases and maintains the integrity of the databases, including merging of multiple datasets and data manipulation to perform statistical analysis;
  • Manages large data sets involving multiple years of data;
  • Independently provides statistical analyses for multiple projects including multiple logistic and linear regression, longitudinal analysis, hierarchical models, and survey analysis;
  • Collaborates with faculty and statisticians on analytical objectives
  • Identifies and attends to critical problems based on experience and resources;
  • Reviews all production turnover materials to ensure adherence to standards;
  • Develops and implements solutions to on-going production problems.
  • Database Administration
  • Develops, codes, tests, documents and supports systems. Fix problems/bugs, make enhancements, add new functionality and develop new systems;
  • Creates analytic datasets and provides data and reports to team;
  • Ensures data integrity;
  • Performs regular maintenance. database infrastructure while assisting study staff
  • Network and System Administration
  • Administers department's Windows NT and 2000 workstations and servers;
  • Troubleshoots computer and network problems;
  • Keeps current with software updates and patches, installs modifications to existing systems and implements new systems into the production environment;
  • Coordinates replacement of existing systems and implementation of upgrading systems into the production environment;
  • Reviews and audits current operating procedures;
  • Recommends and implements processing efficiencies and techniques;
  • Implements solutions to improve present and future system scheduling, software utilization and production processing;
  • Handles and delegates potentially serious problems immediately;
  • Insures that proper forms are loaded in printers and the print quality of reports is satisfactory;
  • Maintains computer room and peripheral equipment, cleans printers, tape drives, buster, decollators and attends to any problems;
  • Provides desktop support services for personal computers and associated peripheral devices as well as communications and/or telecommunications hardware and software;
  • Provides input on services for personal computers and recommends support strategies;
  • Assists users with computer-related problems and logs all requests for service;
  • Performs desktop diagnostics. Ensures ability to connect devices to network and resolves issues and/or redirects problems appropriately;
  • Relates current problem/complaint to problem history file and identifies trends;
  • Maintains problem and history information on equipment and software.
  • Project Management Manage several projects:
  • Serve as liaison between key investigators, research and technical staff and consultants;
  • Coordinates input from technical staff and designers;
  • Organizes and prioritizes tasks, ensuing projects are completed on time.
  • Makes purchasing decisions on computer and peripheral equipment for the department;
  • Interacts with department staff to gather and disseminate information and offer suggestions for improving the functions of the technical section of the department and ways the technical staff can aid other areas of the department.
  • Develops recommendations and/or proposes solutions appropriate to job responsibilities;
  • Analyzes problems or potential problems relating to the production environment and recommends and implements solutions for improvement;
  • Provides on the job training for other production staff.
  • Understands and adheres to Boston Medical Center's confidentiality policies and procedures for business and clinical data. Utilizes hospital's Values as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the division's mission. Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Master's degree or higher in computer science, statistics or related field required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED :

None

EXPERIENCE:

2-3 years of relevant experience is required

Preferred: Experience with SAS, STATA, VB, C , Java, etc>>

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Advanced skills/experience with statistical programming and data management.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical research methodology/principles. Knowledge of SUDAAN and UNIX preferred;
  • High level of organizational skills, including strong attention to detail and the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to summarize/interpret complex analyses, strong deductive reasoning skills, and ability to maintain detailed documentation of data management and programming work;
  • Experience using Oracle or other database software. Comfort with UNIX and Windows/DOS operating systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work comfortably in a nonhierarchical environment with multi-matrix reporting relationships.
